@halocme That's one of the questions we will tackle next within @H2020Serpentine! Where does the flare contribution stop and where starts the shock? When do they mix, how to disentangle them? Observations close to the Sun by @SolarOrbiter, @ParkerSunProbe, and @BepiColombo will be key! 🛰️

@halocme Yes, I mean the first explanation. We also compared the electron and proton peak intensities with the shock normal angels at the magnetic footpoints of the spacecraft but did not find any differences between proton and electron correlations with the shock geometry.
