It's pretty clear what happened, isn't it? We moved from an Admin that fundamental distrusted technology to one that wants to build and export the full-stack of American technology as a projection and pillar of US influence globally. This is explicit policy as evinced from the

Itās time to disabuse ourselves of the incredibly outdated notion that China makes cheap stuff while the West makes the things that matter. In fact, Chinaās world-leading industrial and manufacturing ecosystem means that it is not only catching up but also leapfrogging the West

Not only is @leopoldaschās hedge fund absolutely flying viz his view on AI, but heās one of the first who really had a cogent take on AI/geopolitics long before anyone was really talking about it. I recommend his podcast episode with @dwarkesh_sp.

On the @nvidia / @intel deal coming just a month after @realDonaldTrump announced the US govāt was taking a 10% stake in the latter: Free-market purists will argue this is market distortion. But history shows that public-private partnership is precisely how the US delivered

Public - private partnership, historically the way the U.S. has delivered exceptional technology leadership. This is the spirit of the Apollo Project, and in the current geopolitical context, it is welcome and necessary.
This is unprecedented: On August 22nd, President Trump announced that the US took a 10% stake in Intel, $INTC, worth ~$11 billion. Today, 27 days later, NVIDIA made a massive investment in Intel, sending the US' position +$5 BILLION higher. What just happened? (a thread)

Of course China wants chips sovereignty. They were always going to go for it. They have the foundational industrial base, and the AI models and applications to support āintelligence at scale.ā The only thing missing is the chip/compute layer.
There was major news from China in the AI race this week: 1. Huawei introduced a new AI chip to compete with Nvidia. 2. The Chinese government instructed Chinese companies to stop buying certain Nvidia AI chips. Taken together, the message is clear: China is not desperate for
