Went to see 'Nye' at the national theatre. Michael Sheen as Aneurin Bevan looking back over his life. Incredible. Rage-inducing. They put this up at the end and there was a huge unspoken 'but for how long?'

Early modern definitions of 'naked' are fascinating. 'Diverse Times he hath lyen with me, sometimes in his Doublet and Hose, and Two or Thre Times naked: But not so naked that he had nothing upon him, for he had alwayes at the least his Doublet'

On this day in 1536, Anne Boleyn was executed. I don't have a lot to say about this that isn't being amply covered elsewhere; BUT some of my girls were in service to her at the time, and I find it really fascinating to think about this from their perspective.

Anne was arrested on 2nd May at Greenwich and taken straight – ‘in full daylight’ - to the Tower of London by river. Chapuys (Spanish ambassador) said that ‘only four women have been left by her’. Let’s talk about them, shall we? *rolls up sleeves*

#OTD in 1542, Catherine Howard, the former queen, was beheaded at the Tower of London. She was about 19 years old. Also executed was her lady-in-waiting Jane Boleyn, Dowager Viscountess Rochford.

Margaret Beaufort must be one of the only pre-modern women who was such a force of nature that it's possible to forget that she actually had a husband. I keep seeing refs to 'my Lord' in her accounts and being surprised.

My dad, a biochemist currently producing covid test kits, wrote me a cheat sheet on how testing actually works. This helps to explain why it's not quite as simple as 'MAKE MORE TESTS'; we are, but it takes time, materials, and relevant expertise.
