@WIRED And dogs! There’s a possibility that the original cicada broods were sent to earth by extraterrestrials…

Now I’m no conspiracy theorist. But...these cicadas! It's time we acknowledge the possibility (ahem…likelihood) that Cicadas are highly-intelligent extraterrestrial life forms. Sent to earth thousands of years ago to monitor the human race. Let's examine the facts:

@USATODAY Speaking of curiosity…why is the MSM ignoring the obvious links between cicadas and extraterrestrials?

@NWACMoore Maybe a bit of both? They really are quite bizarre…

And finally: Our hound dog Faithful is just eating the SHIT out of these things! Every day. Her breath smells exactly like you'd expect after eating something that's been underground for 7 to 17 years. But I like to think of Faithful as an alien-fighting force who won’t go down without a fight.

Learned today there is a Japanese term, Tsundoku, for this practice of acquiring books but letting them accumulate in the home without reading them. HT to @tferriss for calling this out during his wide-ranging podcast interview with @SamCorcos.

For some reason I’m always surprised (and delighted) when a flight departs in a thunderstorm, but then it’s just pure sunshine above the clouds.

I used to think personal fitness training/coaching could only be effective in person. But after hiring several in-person personal trainers at various stages of my life - with marginal success at best - I recently started working with a virtual health & wellness coach who lives in a different country. It’s early days, but I now strongly believe the future of fitness coaching is virtual.

So how psyched is Elon Bezos that @TheMorningShow cast Jon Hamm to play them in Season 3?

“Long distance runner, what you standin’ there for? Get up, get out, get out the door.” - The Grateful Dead The opening line from the 1978 Grateful Dead song “Fire on the Mountain” inspired me to start training for my first marathon. Seriously. The song was playing in the background while I made breakfast one December morning, and when I heard that lyric...it just spoke to me. So I registered right away for an upcoming race, then trained my tail off for about 4 months. Running a marathon had always been on my “someday” list. And it would likely have stayed there had it not been for that nudge from an iconic American band. #GratefulDead

So true! My wife Julie likes to share the story about her car breaking down in the late evening in a large city when she was in her early 20s. Her first call was to her father - who lived several hours away - asking him to solve her problem. After explaining the situation, expecting her father to drive 3+ hours to pick her up, she said “So Dad, what do you think we should do?” Her father - who raised each of his kids to be self-reliant - answered without missing a beat, making it clear he was not coming to the rescue: “I don’t know, what do YOU think you should do?” Julie, of course, figured it out. And it was a foundational experience which helped her become the independent, self-reliant person she is today.

@markrabkin A mentor once shared an equation which drives home the same point: Perception = Expectation - Reality So simple, yet so powerful!
