Its all but confirmed now, the Undersecretary of Defense Isabella Rauti has officially declared that the purchase of the Leopard 2 tanks will be included in the forthcoming DPP. Purchase just needs to be approved by the parliament now.

According to Agenparl, the Italian army is looking to buy up to 250 Leopard 2a7. The purchase is estimated to be around 8 billion euro. Italy has repeatedly been interested in the Leopard platform, so this doesn't really suprise me, what does surpise is that 250 number.

The negotiations with KNDS for the supply of Leopard 2 MBTs for the Italian army are according to RID, at a very advanced stage. The acquision of the Leo's is estimated to be between 4 and 6 billion euros. We should expect some sort of official announcement soon if all goes well.

Seems like Ukrainians have been training on the SAMP/T system in Italy since the start of the month, they’re at Santa Barbara di Sabaudi which houses the anti-air command of the Italian army. Once training is completed the system will be delivered together with France to Ukraine.

it had placed in Slovakia to replace an American Patriot air defence system. This could mean many things but in my opinion its just to send a message to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as he does not support Ukraine.

Sad news, Aircraft carrier C551 'Giuseppe Garibaldi' from the 1st of October 2024, will be taken out of service to be disarmed. It has been serving Italy since the 1980's and took part in Operation Enduring Freedom and also was present during the conflicts in Libya and Kosovo.

Unexpected move by the Italian MOD. Today it was revealed that they will purchase several units of the B1 Draco and OTOMATIC platforms for the Italian Army and Airforce. Ever since the SIDAM-25 was retired, Italy has had to rely on the Stinger Manpad for short range air defence.

Some info on the Otokar-Leonardo Tulpar Hitfact MK2, seems like this cooperation was in the works since late 2022. Both companies had agreed to make this platform which for now is primarily being marketed for a Middle Eastern market. Tests will start soon, after the WDS.

Visited the OTO Melara Museum in La Spezia in September, got to see a lot of unique vehicles such as the only surviving OTOMATIC. Seeing these historic vehicles from up close was amazing. Their archive is also full of never before seen photos of many obscure Italian prototypes.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but the Italian Leopard 1a5’s the Swiss cling unto should be refurbished and sent to Ukraine anyway. These 1a5’s are ex-Italian army, partially built by OTO Melara in Italy. The turrets were bought by Germany but then modified further to fit a LWS.

As it turns out, the AW-249 Fenice has already began armament integration since November of last year. They started off with testing the OTO Melara TM197B turret armed with a 20mm cannon. The Fenice can now bring more munitions vs the A129.🔽

The Italian army is looking to modernise 54 of their FH-70’s, this upgrade intends to improve their mobility by having a new power pack based on a 40kw diesel engine. They also intend to improve the accuracy while firing by procuring LINAPS as well as MVR kits for the FH-70.

Yesterday at Fincantieri's Riva Trigoso site, the F589 “Emilio Bianchi” FREMM was launched. This being the last of 10 which were built for the Italian Navy. It is expected to enter service sometime in 2025 once outfitting reaches completion.
