An absolute gentleman. He was a decent man who lived his life to principles and standards. I remember him at St James Park for Soccer Aid just before he died.
On this day in 1982, Ipswich Town manager Bobby Robson is told that his title rival from the previous season, Ron Saunders, has resigned from his job at Aston Villa. His initial shocked reaction is followed by genuine empathy. Sir Bobby was a class act.

Regarding Sgt Brodie Haldane, RAF, I've tracked down his Death Certificate, unfortunately it doesn't mention how and where he received his injuries. I'm guessing he was badly burned in a plane crash. I know, however, it was 3 months prior to his death.
