Out Now - ‘Hope & Despair’ lifts the lid on the crises and scandals that have dominated the political landscape in recent years - from Brexit to Covid, civil war in the Tory, Labour and the SNP parties, public service cuts, the Covid pandemic and more from
I saw this dreadful interview this morning - why is it ‘tough decisions’ always land on the poor and working class - where are the ‘tough choices’ affecting the wealthy, the corporations, the media barons, the hedge fund managers, the bankers?
Jeremy Corbyn is my friend. He is a decent, caring and compassionate man who has fought injustice all his life. He has been the most vilified and attacked politician in my lifetime, up against a concerted media campaign of lies and smears - he will remain my friend and comrade.
The Justice Secretary, I repeat the Justice Secretary of the Govt is giving a ranting, raving commentary on a Parliamentary committee hearing into issues that are fundamental to the country’s justice system
What an utter disgrace the First Minister and Deputy First disappear from the parliament chamber when the statement on drugs deaths begins - tells you everything, absolutely everything about their attitude
Today I will travel on a failing transport system, walk past homeless people shivering on the street, reply to people on NHS lists, parents who need mental health support for their kid, and go into a parliament where there is an emergency debate on flying a flag - it makes sick
I have very little interest in football these days but this is superb - I hope the fans of other clubs follow - we need working class solidarity to defeat hate and division.
In reading the Salmond evidence remember this - the SNP and media hounded two Labour leaders to resign - 1 because of a £950 campaign donation the 2nd over a balls up over an office lease
This has cost the tax payer millions and the actions could have seen someone jailed
Care home deaths - no one resigns
Ferries contract - no one resigns
Sick kids hospital delay - no one resigns
Exams fiasco - no one resigns
Salmond inquiry - no one resigns
Never, ever does anyone in this Govt accept responsibility
Just been into Glasgow one of the great cities of the world - neglect of this fantastic place is a tragedy.
The amount of litter, weeds and absence of maintenance of the public realm combined with the closure programme of public facilities is corporate neglect on a huge scale
No one ‘took their eye off the ball over drugs deaths’ - Nicola Sturgeon’s Government made a deliberate, political decision to cut budgets to alcohol and drugs partnerships when drugs deaths were soaring and it was a shameful decision that cost lives
Nicola Sturgeon is a lawyer and was First Minister. In both roles she would have known and been advised of her duties under the Inquiries act. She chose to delete evidence, this is a criminal offence.
We should never forget Ruth Davidson supported :-
-The rape clause
-The bedroom tax
-£30 a week cut to disability benefits
-Tax cuts for the rich
-Scrapping housing benefit for young people
-The trade union bill
-Privatisation of the Royal Mail
-Hostile environment
Today
-FM goes to court to defy parliament
- Health Sec tries to suspend FOI legislation
- Her partner lobbies to get students back at Universities early
- An SNP MPs comedy club appears to get one of the biggest grants in the sector when others get nothing
Scotland 2020
Which of these is the greatest resigning matter -
- A balls up over an office lease
- An undeclared £950 campaign donation
- Or a failure to release 40 documents requested under a Police search warrant?
Today I got to see my mum in her room in her care home for the first time in almost a year. I live 100 yards from her home, the last year has been torture - I want to thank all of the staff at the care home for everything they have done in the most difficult of times.
-Exams shambles - teachers to blame
-2400 excess deaths in Care homes - Homes to blame
-New hospitals with multiple problems - builders to blame
-Soaring drugs deaths - Westminster to blame
- Cuts to council budgets - councils to blame
IT IS NEVER SNP MINISTERS IN CHARGE, NEVER
Scottish politics is in a very dark place where every issue is seen as a constitutional one and where bad decisions, some that have caused many of our citizens to die, are viewed as a loyalty test to a political cause. This is a very, very dangerous and depressing situation.
Just watched the funeral of a 20 year old man from Livingston who died having taken street Valium - in West Lothian there is no rehab beds, no walk in services, it’s two years to get an appointment with a psychologist. The services are simply not there and people are dying
Remember Wendy Alexander had to resign for £500
Henry McLeish resigned for arseing up a lease and making no financial gain
We now have a Govt that has no paperwork for unfinished ferries worth hundreds of millions - no one will be accountable
Last week Mr Leitch was considering opening pubs later to watch any extra time at the fitba
Today his advice is to shut down pubs across the central belt
That’s ‘the science’ again
On 6th of May 2020 I pleaded with the First Minister to stop discharging patients untested into care homes. She chastised me, said that decisions were ‘clinically driven’ and they had been ‘advise’ to do this - this is very different from what Jeane Freeman said yesterday
Today I raised the removal of evidence from the committee on harassment complaints list of evidence received - this is a crisis for the Scot Parliament - the PO’s response was completely unacceptable, the Lord Advocate and the Parliament’s corporate body must be held to account
Just a thought - if the SNP Govt were prepared to go to such lengths to withhold information from their own lawyers - what chance has an ordinary citizen, journalist or politician got with a Freedom Of Information request ?
The former First Minister of Scotland who is being investigated as part of a police inquiry into missing money was arrested on Sunday and questioned for 7 hours - today her parliamentary colleagues sent her flowers - what in the name of hell is going on in this country?
So
@NicolaSturgeon
was available for as many media interviews as possible about her 50th Birthday but she wasn’t available to answer any questions about the deaths of hundreds of residents discharged from hospital to care homes untested ?
I am standing as an independent candidate for the people of Islington North.
As your MP, I will continue to be an independent voice for equality, democracy and peace.
Please join our campaign at . Let's prove that when we come together, we can win.
Can anyone answer this question
Why with the 3rd highest death rate in the world and having walked in lockstep with the UK govt for most of the time, is Nicola Sturgeon and her Govt deemed by many to have handled the coronavirus well?
I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from this - not the language expected from a Hutcheson Grammar former pupil - looks like they didn’t like being held to account
Imagine living in a country where the PM resigns because he protected and promoted a sex offender that he knew about but exactly the same thing happened with another party and no one was held to account ?
I will always be a democrat first and foremost - what has gone on in the House of Commons is an affront to democracy -
@StephenFlynnSNP
is spot on here - where is the Speaker? He has big questions to answer
🚨 BREAKING: Stephen Flynn angrily eviscerates Speaker Lindsay Hoyle, who is absent as MPs debate his move to accept Labour's Gaza motion.
“Where on earth is the Speaker of the Commons and how can we bring him to this House?”
Relentlessly supporting every budget cut to Scotland’s councils, voting them through then campaigning to oppose the very same cuts - well done Ross when’s the revolution?
"We have spent the last five years relentlessly trying to achieve as much as we possibly can." You can listen to the whole of
@Ross_Greer
's interview with
@seanmcdonald01
and the Blethered podcast at Acast.
The fact that I was getting under his skin by holding him to account is proof that I was doing my job effectively - a badge of honour from the posh boy - thanks Humza 😉
I don’t want another referendum in Scotland but what
@johnmcdonnellMP
has said is correct - the decision is one to be made by the Scottish people, democratically.
Someone who takes ‘their eye of the ball’ might miss a penalty or fail to pot a ball - their decisions don’t end with the death of 1200 citizens each year
The Lord Advocate is a member of Scottish Cabinet providing legal advice to Ministers
The Govt he advises carried out the unlawful investigation into the Salmond affair, the case fell apart and over £1 million wasted - they now step in to have published evidence withdrawn
Can anyone help me with this ?
If not having devolved powers over all drugs policy is central to the drugs deaths problems in Scotland as some claim, why have we got far higher rates of deaths than England and Wales who operate under the exact same powers?
It’s funny that the SNP are claiming all they want to do is make it easy for people to get a postal vote - during the elections Bill they did all they could to oppose there being a national Freepost address - I know because I sat on the committee discussing the bill
Well, well, well - looks like were being spun more lies - Edinburgh Uni's Prof Mark Woolhouse (Scot Gov adviser) tells Holyrood's Covid committee: “Scotland was not close to elimination at any stage during this epidemic.”
I didn’t think there was anything I loathed more than the Conservative party until Boris Johnson turned up - he represents everything that is alien to me and my community, a repulsive, obnoxious, lying, entitled, self promoting, sinister, cheating, devious arse.
Where are all the SNP MSPs from parts of Glasgow, The West of Scotland, Lanarkshire, the Lothian’s and elsewhere complaining about how disadvanted pupils in their constituencies have been shafted by a rigged exams system ?
During lockdown we had to campaign hard and highlight hundreds of cases of kids with no IT access to get them to release more funding now because of an election we have this - shameless
🗳 👩💻 If
@theSNP
is re-elected in May, we will make sure every school pupil from P1 to S6 gets a laptop, Chromebook or tablet. In the digital age this should be as automatic as being given jotters and pencils was in years gone by.
#BothVotesSNP
Has
@NicolaSturgeon
made a statement about the deaths of elderly people in care homes because of the ‘mistakes’ she and Jeane Freeman made and then continued to make when it was pointed out - remember people died
The US are prepared to negotiate with and see the handover of power to the Taliban but won’t lift crippling economic sanctions on Cuba - a country of peace that sends health care workers and humanitarian support to countries across the world in their time of need
It’s a sad indication of our times that when I ask questions about safe visits between care home residents and their families that the Deputy leader of the SNP and some of his idiotic cheerleaders on the back benches beside him heckle and try and shout me down - pathetic
Lesson - if there had been a majority SNP Govt today there is not a chance they would have overturned the exams shambles - only the threat of parliamentary defeat on top of public opinion changed things, young people and their parents should remember this
Nicola Sturgeon says she regrets the loss of life in care homes - all through Covid she attacked those of us who asked questions about the disastrous care home discharge policy
“There’s a gap between how you present yourself, which you do very well, and what is actually going on in Scotland said Andrew Marr to First Minister - no Andrew there is a Grand Canyon
Looks like those who have led a 3 year campaign of briefings to journalists, leaks of private conversations and the constant feeding of stories to the media to bring down a decent and honest man have succeeded. These flinching cowards and sneering traitors make me sick.
I submitted an FOI to find out what communications there was between the FM, Cab sec for health and Joe Fitzpatrick around the time of his resignation - they have now told me there is no such information - so it looks like Fitzpatrick resigned via telepathy
I hope the family of every care home resident who lost their lives during the Covid crisis following their discharge from hospital or who died in a home where untested patients were admitted, are now consulting a solicitor.
The honking seals on the Govt benches who along with Nicola Sturgeon cheered Salmond’s every utterance now clap every insult and attack on him. It appears that those of us who always knew he was a shameless chancer were just a better judge of character than the entire SNP group
Glasgow council to cut over 400 teaching jobs
Falkirk Council to cut the time pupils are taught
I don’t care which political party runs these councils, all of Scotland’s councils are in deep financial crisis as a result of deliberate policy decisions by the Scottish Govt
Scottish Govt policy signed off by Minsters :-
Don’t test throusands of older people - send them to care homes
Patients who have been tested and found to be positive - send them to care homes
Patients in Care homes with Covid - don’t treat them in hospital
This is criminal
20 polls in a row say
- there is a housing crisis
- there is a drugs crisis and it took 14 years for anything is to be done
- say educational inequality is growing
- say NHS waiting times are too long
- say no one should go hungry
- say poverty rates shame us
#priorities
Seriously where is the Scottish Media in asking about the cost of party manifesto promises? Or can parties say what they like and promise anything with zero accountability or credibility?
The SNP have proposed a list of spending commitments with zero income tax rises
Last night I was contacted by a constituent whose mum is in a care home, she was hospitalised and tested positive, today she is being discharged back to the care home still Covid positive - after all that has gone on how can this be happening?
Here’s a list of people who DEFINITELY never spoke out about the discharge of patients untested or Covid positive to care homes
N Sturgeon
J Freeman
S Sommerville
C McKelvie
J Fitzpatrick
J Swinney
K Brown
M Russell
Every other SNP MSP, MP and Councillor
Flowers for one MSP for being interviewed by the Polis - the whip withdrawn for another for wanting to sack a useless Minister who has cost the country millions and 200 jobs
Fergus Ewing 'set to lose party whip' after vote against Lorna Slater |
Nobody speaks like this - it’s a mangled word salad - the way I speak and words
I use as a West Lothian working class man are very different from that of my peers in Glasgow, the Islands or Dundee - mixing the language from different areas sounds very odd
I’m always amazed how many nationalists try to pretend that Nicola Sturgeon, Fiona Hyslop, Alex Neil, Humza Yousaf, Kenny McAskill etc were never list MSPs
The role of an SNP backbencher
- never ask a tough question of any minister
- read from a script given to you by whips
- never have an independent thought
- sit around the Holyrood coffee bar blethering
- applications to Magpie Murrell
Scottish politics this week
- Crown office blows £25 million and admits to malicious prosecution
- Former SNP First Minister refuses to attend a parliamentary inquiry
- Chief Executive of Governing party lying at inquiry
And that’s only Monday !
Think about this - if there was a majority SNP Govt -
- Fitzpatrick would still be in a job
- The offensive behaviour act would still be around
- The original exams results would have stood
- The education bill and Hate crime bill in its original form would have passed
Scotland 2021 Peter Krykant saves lives of drugs users every day and receives just over 900 votes
Joe Fitzpatrick was the public health Minister in charge when Scotland recorded the worst drugs deaths rates in the developed world 19,000 votes
I despair
Can anyone tell me why
@AConstanceSNP
a failed education minister who was in the cabinet that imposed the biggest cuts to drugs and alcohol budgets in recent years is deemed the right person to take over as drugs policy minister ?
Cut the crap - Parliament voted for an immediate start to a Scottish inquiry and release of the legal papers on the Salmond case - stop holding parliament in contempt
Here are the real charges against Matheson
- He lied claiming it was the fault of the IT company
- He lied claiming he was doing parliamentary work
- He lied saying there was no personal use
- He tried to get the parliament to pay the costs knowing what they were for
