@northerness @DebbieKennett @JoshHalliday @NUJ_Leeds @LancsPolice @ClarkeMicah To be fair, that's a bit of a stretch: In an adversarial criminal justice system, prosecution are always going to have whip hand on narrative from the moment counsel makes his (or her) opening speech to the jury. In #LucyLetby trial, Nick Johnson KC took full advantage of that.

@DebbieKennett @JoshHalliday @NUJ_Leeds @LancsPolice Judith Moritz is common to both trials: Sat next to me in the press gallery for many of the days at Preston. In my experience, she's a trusted, conscientious, risk averse journalist and would only report what was permitted within the confines of the Contempt of Court Act, 1981.

Long-running Hillsborough trials at Preston CC were classed as 'sensitive'. Court reporters, including myself, had a CPS liaison officer (on secondment from @LancsPolice). They assist with witness timetables, exhibits, contact with bereaved etc but, absolutely, do not influence what is reported. Experienced journalists know to strictly confine their output, during a trial, to only what is heard in court in evidence and, only with permission of judge, what is heard in submissions without jury present. Hope this helps.
