EVP and Chief Policy Officer at @USChamber. Husband, father, veteran of Capitol Hill. Intersection of policy, politics, and business.
Washington, D.C.
Joined October 2013
Grew up in the US, went to college, opened his own taxi company and then deported to a country he did not know all b/c he was brought here illegally when he was 4. America is now poorer. Congress, it is time to fix this. #Dreamers

Whatever your view on noncompetes, it should disturb everyone that 3 unelected FTC officials decided that under a law enacted 100+ years ago, noncompetes are now suddenly illegal. No vote of Congress, just 3 ppl declaring that a long used business contract is retroactively banned.
“The Federal Trade Commission’s decision to ban employer noncompete agreements across the economy is not only unlawful but also a blatant power grab that will undermine American businesses’ ability to remain competitive.". Read @SuzanneUSCC's statement on why we will sue the FTC

The average size of a #PPP loan has fallen dramatically to $36,731 for the 359,376 loans approved last week. That is an average payroll of less than $200 k a year. Looks like lots of the self-employed, ICs, and very small employers are now accessing the program.

@alaynatreene @PunchbowlNews . @USChamber has not pulled support from BIF. We continue to believe BIF should pass as a stand alone bill, unlinked to the reconciliation bill. The Democratic leadership has changed course & is now pursuing reconciliation 1st. We will continue to vigorously oppose reconciliation.

Outstanding new program announced in Arizona by @dougducey . -$2 k signing bonus for those returning to work .- help with community college tuition.- 3 months childcare assistance.- ends $300 weekly UI supplement. 👏💯👏💯👏.
“The best social program is a job.” - President Ronald Reagan. Arizona is back to work!. Effective July 10th, Arizona will no longer be paying the $300/week federal supplement to unemployed workers, and instead we will be helping Arizonans get back to work. 1/

.@thesmallbizad There is a great opportunity to get immigration reform done this year. Divided gov't forces both parties to work together, both have things they want, & most importantly business is united on the need for #ImmigrationReform. So count us optimistic. #USChamberchat

There is no bigger supporter of the bipartisan infrastructure bill than @USChamber. Respectfully, @POTUS is wrong. This bill should have been enacted 6 years ago. There was a chance to enact it 6 weeks ago. Delay has consequences & none of them are good for the American people.

.@HudsonChamPrez. We are cautiosuly optimistic that a deal can be struck by March 2. We have to confront China's unfair trade practices, but we also need to avoid a trade war. Tariffs are taxes and they hurt American consumers and businesses. #USChamberchat

Translation: Even the Biden administration knows their proposed corporate tax hikes will hurt American businesses & cost America jobs, so they are trying to convince other countries to raise their taxes to blunt the damage. How about we just say ‘no’ to job destroying tax hikes?.

Disappointed @Sen_JoeManchin now supports #PROAct. Bad policy for WV. Bill would overturn WV’s right to work & its independent contractor laws - latter replaced with law from CA. WV workers forced to pay union dues or lose their job. 225k indep contractors could lose livelihood.

Sam Johnson was one of those people whose presence & example touched and informed the lives of everyone around him, whether you were the Speaker or a lowly staffer as I was. If you haven’t, get his book “Captive Warriors.” His & Shirley’s story is awe inspiring.
Col. Samuel Robert Johnson embodied all that it means to be an American. Humble, principled, selfless, devoted to family and country. He was my compass as Speaker. That was the least of his contributions to the nation he served and loved. Rest in well-earned peace, Sam.
