Own & Operate the family feedyard as well as a cow/calf operation with my wife and 2 kids. UNL Ag/HR Manager at USMARC. Horseman, Cattlemen & Believer. CowboyUp
My wife took her horse out for a ride and when she got back she caught my son & I relaxing a few minutes in the grass. A second grader, a dog & a feedyard. No matter what tomorrow brings, today I am blessed.
I was talking with an older rancher today and he shared a thought that made an impression on me. He said “I try to live my life like I may die tomorrow but treat my land like I’ll live forever”.

Underneath those blankets & towels is a chilled baby calf. We dried him off brought him inside & warmed him up and gave him colostrum. You won’t find cuddling in any vet protocol but that is why I will continue to bust my butt to make it possible to keep this dream alive.
My MIL got on a horse tonight up at the feedyard. Said it’d been 20 years (which actually means over 30) since she’d rode. She’s almost 80 years old - age is just a number my friends.
Dad got hit by a semi 9 days ago while driving his tractor home. Got his first fresh air since the accident this morning and he’s “throwing the bones”. I think
@coach_frost
should let him give the first pregame speech to the boys this fall

I’m not a fan of bottle calves but my son loves to feed em and has incredible patience and compassion for these calves. Makes it hard not to let him keep this one.
Had pins put in my broken thumb this week. So thankful for my family helping do the things I can’t whike recovering from surgery. Especially my beautiful wife (and her damn dog 😉).
My first grader sharing his thoughts and vivid imagination with me during an evening ride. Thank God for little boys, good horses and Nebraska sunsets.
My son has wanted to add sheep to our livestock operation and has maintained his desire for a long time. Yesterday we made his dream come true. He is so excited it’s contagious.
One of our bull’s incredible hide n seek skills as well as his dedication to the game has won him a prestigious all expenses 1 way trip to a luxury local sale barn. I will be informing him of his prize….as soon as I find him.
Honestly the difference between 4 above and 14 below is incredible on how much better equipment runs and how much better everything looks. I’ll take it.

Our 5 year old often asks to “feed with Daddy in the dark”. Today was one of the days I let him come with me. He sprang out of bed at 4:30 am & hung in there with enthusiasm and wonderment. He absolutely made my day & reminded me why we do this.

My son’s 4H flock is rapidly expanding. 4 more lambs last night. If he makes more money on his project then I do in the feedyard is it wrong to ask to get on his payroll? Asking for me.
Calving is never easy, but this has been one of the toughest 48 hours I ever remember. Results have been good though & green grass will eventually return!!
Weekend conversation with my daughter while working on the old feedyard truck
Me: I really hate mechanic work
Her: Why?
Me: Cause I suck at it.
Her: No you don’t, stuff you work on
usually runs when you’re done.
And the wrap around her finger gets tighter.
One should proofread when using talk to text.
I was texting my wife that I’d come up to the house when I was done with the hot ration.
It changed that to hot Russian
😁
If you want toned biceps in 2023, skip the gym membership & get yourself an 806 tractor. Then try to steer it at 5 below.

. Merry Christmas!!
@FcemfS
thank you so much for taking the time to go see Dad after tonight’s scrimmage. We are all extremely touched by your kindness and your class. You represent everything that is good about high school sports. Means the world to me & my family. Go Panthers!!!
I’d almost rather sip cantaloupe flavored vodka through a black licorice straw while sitting in the dentist chair than deal with another round of winter storms. 🤣🤣
