Shame on you @texmedPAC and @ajimmywidmer for endorsing a Governor who shows no regard for women, trans people or those affected by gun violence.

(6/6) We are spending all this time raising awareness, breaking down stigma, encouraging treatment, yet systems in place ultimately penalizing us for doing so. When will policy makers & insurance providers do better to ensure actions match what they say regarding mental health?

(5/6) I must consider that in recommending treatment, I am in essence ensuring that patients will not be able to get disability insurance for any future mental health conditions.

(3/6) Consider this: 1 in 7 people who give birth will experience perinatal mental health struggles. As an OBGYN, I pride myself in actively screening my patients for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and providing them with resources. And today, I took pause.

(2/6) I was told today that the disability insurance has now excluded mental health disorders until the age of 65. This means, that if I have to stop working for mental health reasons (burnout, for example, affects up to 75% of physicians according to studies) I won’t be covered.

(1/6) I’m currently applying for disability insurance (financial protection if I lose the ability to work). In the underwriting process, I disclosed my history of postpartum depression and anxiety, my use of an SSRI for 4 months, and three visits to a perinatal psychiatrist.

We have terrorists attacking government buildings and neither @realDonaldTrump or his family will condemn it. Unbelievable.
