Thanks to Lord Cromwell for this important point during the #RentersRightsBill second reading. As @j_davies92 outlines, renting issues do not end just by giving renters new rights in law -we must support local councils to deliver enforcement effectively: ️
Crossbench peer Lord Cromwell made the point that to deliver for the most vulnerable renters, the bill must be accompanied by proper resourcing and enforcement to tackle rogue landlords who ignore the law. We're calling for stronger powers to prosecute illegal evictions. (6/8)

Over the last 5 years, 74 children tragically lost their lives with temporary accomodation playing a role. These heartbreaking stats from @Sharedhealthgm highlight the urgent need for safe, decent, permanent homes. Every family deserves more than just a roof over their heads.
'It is a national scandal that in a wealthy, modern country any child could die homeless.' With 161k children trapped in temporary accommodation, today's figures show the desperate need to build genuinely affordable social homes says Shelter's @pollyn1.

Thanks @PaulaBarkerMP for your #RentersRightsBill amendment to stop landlords from increasing rent higher than inflation or wage growth. While the bill will end S21 evictions, limits on in-tenancy rent increases are vital to prevent economic evictions.

🚨 Good news!🚨The government have listened to our demands and will limit rent in advance to one month.🥳 As the Renters' Rights Bill moves forward we hope they will consider other key demands to strengthen it and deliver genuine security for renters.
