BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT!
I’ve been buried in the process of writing a new book over the last few months. I just finished it, and TODAY is the day I get to tell you for the first time what it’s all about…and reveal the cover too!
It’s called When Culture Hates You: Persevering for
If you're an "evangelical for Harris," that's all I need to hear to know that either 1) you don't have a biblical worldview, 2) you have a biblical worldview but for some reason are not rightly applying it to your political views, or 3) you have a biblical worldview and don't
Left-leaning evangelicals like to promote this narrative that young people's dislike of conservative politics and the association with Christianity causes them to walk away from the faith. But the following should be noted.
This claim is often made with the underlying assumption
It's sad to see how Christianity Today has fully embraced progressive talking points. In a review last week of the newest God's Not Dead movie, writer Joseph Holmes says:
"At the movie’s end, onscreen text tells audiences to 'vote.' God’s Not Dead has come full circle—from the
You're going to hear a lot of warnings from left-leaning Christians in the next couple of months about Christians being too "partisan"--too closely affiliated with a political party. But consider these stats:
--Of American adults who identify as Historically Black Protestants,
David French, Russell Moore, and Curtis Chang's curriculum The After Party is marketed to sound like they're merely trying to help Christians communicate more graciously about politics. In reality, the execution clearly has a much deeper agenda despite the creators' claims to the
Watching the State of the Union. It literally makes me sick to hear how President Biden speaks of how important he thinks it is to be able to choose the death of small humans. It's vile. Mr. President, that's not a "treatment." Ever. It's a tragic death.
Christians, I hope
I’ll be interviewing
@megbasham
for my podcast this week and have been keeping my thoughts on her book for that. Yet I can’t help but say I’m marveling at the number of people sharing critiques of it as supposed evidence of its problems without having even read it themselves. How
In the vast majority of cases, they didn't. I think the more relevant question is, When did left-leaning Christians start making this repeated strawman out of conservative Christians' involvement in the public square? Reminder: It's possible to both fulfill the Great Commission
This kind of statement sounds good on the surface, but is nearly meaningless. Virtually no one holds political positions they believe are unloving. Everyone wants what is best for the common good but people disagree on WHAT is best. For example, pro-choice activists think they
The Christian Super Bowl Ad They SHOULD Have Made
A group known as 'He Gets Us' released an advert during the Super Bowl which, whilst perhaps well intentioned, failed to convey anything of the gospel to the hundreds of millions who saw it.
Here's my take on what they should
The default in today's culture is biblical illiteracy. If we aren't proactively studying the Bible with our kids, they will be no more biblically literate than the world around them. Hearing bits and pieces of the Bible at church does NOT mean a child knows the Bible.
The most heartbroken parents I meet when I do speaking engagements is those who homeschooled their kids start to finish, then the kids walk away from their faith and/or cut their parents off as adults. There is a deep grief that accompanies the question, "How could this be? I did
If no one in today's culture is criticizing you for what you say about your faith, you're probably not saying anything at all. When you keep your faith "private," you're not being a light. You're hidden in the darkness. And when darkness prevails, you get a culture like ours.
@MikeWingerii
@megbasham
I am not seeing that at all. In fact, that’s one of the points I want to focus on first with Megan when I interview her tomorrow. People want to pick apart details one by one and yet I don’t see anyone making a case that her overall thesis is wrong.
Wow. Rich Stearns is the former long time President of World Vision and current President Emeritus. We gave to many projects over several years before starting to realize that WV was quite progressive. I’m shocked to see this comment, but at the same time, it totally makes sense
I'll never understand Christians who are afraid to speak out about abortion. It's literally murder. Full stop. It doesn't take boldness, it takes clarity.
As I said in our Unshaken Faith episode this week, imagine if we had people in this country who were advocating for the
When someone posts, "No political party is a Christian party" or "No political party fully reflects a biblical view," I can agree 100 percent. But if that's the extent of that person's post, what they're typically implying is that there's some kind of toss up between the parties
"When we love God first as Jesus commanded, that defines how we love others. No earthly political party is going to perfectly line up with biblical positions. But, as Christians, we have to put clear biblical positions on the table and see where at any given time the bulk of them
I mentioned in my post last night that I've been reading 1 John on repeat. One thing that keeps standing out to me is 1 John 2:3-4:
"By this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says 'I know him' but does not keep his commandments is a
@megbasham
There's also a presupposition here that political divisions in the church are inherently bad. Yet there are "political" issues we SHOULD divide on (e.g. abortion). They are more concerned w/everyone liking each other than advocating for righteousness in the public square.
One of the reasons I find it so important to speak out about how problematic the
#hegetsus
campaign is is that so many Christians are deceived into thinking this is a helpful form of evangelism. Yes, it grieves me greatly to think of the negative impact it will have on the views
I've been warning people about this curriculum and Russell Moore for a while. It's not surprising at all that
@megbasham
discovered the After Party curriculum is being funded by leftists who want to influence the church. Megan, so glad you are opening people's eyes to this.
Did some digging into
@drmoore
,
@DavidAFrench
, & Curtis Chang's Bible study curriculum that teaches Christians how to engage politics. Turns out, its funded by major secular left foundations that promote abortion and trans treatments for kids.
I'm seeing a lot of Christians post about the importance of remembering and seeking unity during this election season. If by unity, people mean we need to first and foremost be united around the central truths of Christianity and treat each other (and nonbelievers) with grace in
Trump hasn't explained what specifically he intends us to take from this post, but to use the euphemistic language of "reproductive rights" that the left uses to refer to the ability to legally kill babies is clearly an attempt to appeal to pro-choicers.
It's tragic. Again,
In all of the conversations around politics and Evangelicals right now, it's shocking how often Evangelicals are accused of seeking power--as if we're all supposed to realize that seeking "power" is inherently bad, and as if no one other than Evangelicals is so corrupt in their
Praise the Lord! My site is back up after 36 hours of down time due to my latest blog post going viral! If you've been waiting to read it, you can do so here now (hopefully it won't come down again):
There are going to be a lot of shallow mantras repeated this year to convince Christians we shouldn't care so much about "political" issues. I recommend submitting them to what I'll call "the slavery test."
When you encounter an objection, restate it using the preface,
This is a screenshot from Christianity Today’s “Moore to the Point” column from Russell Moore today regarding his thoughts on the debate. It’s hard to imagine a more misguided view on politics from a Christian. I don’t care how a leader articulates his view on why he thinks women
Just signed a new 2-book contract! First one will be my first non-parenting book (for broad Christian audience). It will be to help Christians consider the implications of now being in a worldview minority & how secularism is creeping into our beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors.
Check out my new episode on The Natasha Crain Podcast with my guest

. Of course, we're talking about her new, controversial book Shepherds for Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda. Since the book has been out a few days, I took the
Reminder: If you want your kids to care about the Bible, they need to see YOU reading it. One of the poorest examples we can set as Christian parents is to NOT be in God's Word every day. Our own lack of spiritual discipline speaks volumes.
At tonight's DNC, CA Senator Laphonza Butler said, "Bragging about having ripped away a woman’s freedom to choose what she does with her own body is unthinkable."
Let me fix it for her. "Bragging about giving women the choice to murder their own babies is unthinkable."
In what
This year, we're going to hear a lot of people say that the church shouldn't talk about politics because it disrupts our unity.
But if you read the Bible, you'll see that some divisions are bad and some are actually good. Divisions due to the presence of error in the church are
I'm teaching this weekend with
@jwarnerwallace
and was so excited to get copies of his brand new Forensic Faith for Kids! His apologetics books for kids are unlike any other resource. This comes out in just 2 weeks...get it now:
Today is my 6 year blogging anniversary! I went from not knowing what
#apologetics
was to having a passion for it after getting attacked by skeptics so often. Now I'm writing books and speaking on it. God works in amazing ways!
Oftentimes, people today lament the political polarization we see as if it’s just a function of no one wanting to get along. But our present-day polarization isn’t a reflection of gratuitous disagreement over trivial matters. It’s a reflection of the seismic split that has
On the one hand, it's nice to see that someone is trying to look at the big picture case Megan is making rather than dissecting footnotes. On the other hand, it would be hard to imagine worse strawmen made out of
@megbasham
's positions in the book or a greater trivialization of
Lots of talk about the errors in
@megbasham
’s NYT-bestselling book. Much less talk about what the book sets out to accomplish, and whether Meg sticks the landing. Here we go!
I’m currently on an airplane somewhere between California and North Carolina (headed to speak at Cross Examined Instructor Academy). I nearly always sleep on planes and am completely incapable of being productive. I’m fast asleep with my mouth open before takeoff.
But today is
LOOK WHAT I JUST GOT! The first physical copies of Talking with Your Kids about Jesus! My puppy Macy says it's so compelling, she can't keep her paws off. Just 3 weeks until you can have yours in hand too! Preorder your copy today and have it March 31:
Whether you're homeschooling this year or just want to incorporate apologetics into your family's life in a more structured way, Talking with Your Kids about Jesus is laid out to make teaching apologetics easy! Talk through one chapter a week for 30 weeks.
I'm honored to now be a regular contributor to the Stand to Reason blog! Here's my first post: "4 Things That Must Happen before More Christian Parents Will Care about Questions of Faith and Science"
I so often see this strawman that our vote doesn't "define our walk" or doesn't "reflect our salvation," etc. I don't think I've ever seen someone claim that it does.
What people DO say is that if you are committed to a biblical worldview--the core truths about the nature of
The next couple months are going to be full of accusations that a person can't be a Christian and vote how they're voting. Ignore those voices. There is no credible argument that our vote defines our walk with God.
I'm thrilled and honored that
@LeeStrobel
is writing the foreword to my next book, Talking with Your Kids about Jesus (coming March 2020)! I've long appreciated his many wonderful resources that equip the body of Christ--he has been a blessing to so many.
People often believe they can separate Jesus’s teachings from the miracle claims of the NT and regard him simply as a good moral teacher. This, however, isn't logical. Miracle claims are so central to the Gospels that, without them, most of the remaining text doesn’t make sense.
One of the ways Christian parents and even youth-oriented Christian organizations can end up going very wrong is by making "Christian character development" the focus rather than "Christian disciple making."
Character development should be a by-product of a focus on disciple
IT'S OUT! Today my new book, Talking with Your Kids about Jesus is officially available. New blog post with thoughts on how this will help families during a time of crisis, links to reviews, order links, info on a FB read along, and more:
Hey, Christian X: I think all of the in-house political debates right now can be boiled down to the decision tree I made below. It would be a lot easier if we could all just identify ourselves up front as an "A" or "B," etc. It really explains so much. Give it a try: Comment
Insight from my son (age 9) after seeing an all-black Rubik's Cube: "This is like morality. When a Rubik's Cube is all black, no move can be better than another. You can do anything [as in atheism]. But when they have colors then there is a pattern you *should* do [as in theism]"
Christian parenting isn't primarily about raising kids with good values. A person with good values but no relationship with Jesus is still a person who will be separated from God forever. Focus on raising kids who know and love Jesus and goodness follows as a fruit of the Spirit.
WE'RE BACK! The Unshaken Faith podcast resumes today after our summer hiatus. If you're new to the show, it's a weekly short-format (20ish minutes) podcast I co-host with Alisa Childers designed to equip Christians to engage on cultural issues through a biblical lens.
We thought
Here are a few things I think Christians should be clear about theologically given recent events (because there are some pretty crazy things being said).
First, a miracle is an extraordinary event with a supernatural cause. We can certainly identify extraordinary events—like a
@BenSchettler
YES. AMEN. For the life of me, I do not understand the desire to be seen as disinterested in taking sides politically. If one side holds a series of desperately unbiblical positions and the other side is clearly more in line with biblical views on those issues (while of course
Had an awesome day recording a radio show for Focus on the Family in CO Springs today! Talked about my book Keeping Your Kids on God's Side.

were also in town and I had a chance to meet up with them!
If you feel weary by all the cultural chaos (including disagreements by Christians over cultural chaos), there's a good chance you're not in God's Word as much as you should be. Reading the Bible is refreshment for the soul. It puts everything in perspective.
Need a
The Atlantic ran an article today titled "Kamala Harris’s Biggest Advantage: Abortion is a winning issue for Democrats, and the vice president is well positioned to use it." Unfortunately, The Atlantic is exactly right. Most Democrats are passionately pro-abortion and Harris is
In this episode,
@Sean_McDowell
does an OUTSTANDING job having a grace- and truth-filled conversation with Jon Steingard, who recently made headlines with his deconversion. I'm always so grateful for the example that Sean sets with how he engages.

After spending a lot of time researching the vast array of ways in which people use the term "Christian nationalism" (for a chapter in my new book), I've come to the conclusion that the underlying issues fall into one of four categories:
Category A(larming): Concerns all
For years, the American Church has been overrun with leaders who are selling out their ministries to the highest bidders, giving wolves access to their sheep in exchange for elite respectability.
Rather than the truth of Scripture, high-profile pastors are preaching trendy
Someone in a recent comment on my FB page said this: "I heard a pastor say, 'Churches should be more about what we're for than what we're against.' If possible, please respond to what you think about this."
The problem is that any time you're "for" something, you're still
Just got this mic out of the box...PODCAST PLANS ARE UNDERWAY!
I'll be doing it with a co-host I'll reveal later. Our purpose will be to equip parents to raise kids with confident faith in a secular world.
If you'll be a listener, what topics do you want to hear about?
It was such an honor to teach at Cross Examined Instructor Academy this weekend! I felt like an imposter alongside these pros but what a blessing to be part of it!
I just finished reading this book by
@jwarnerwallace
and
@Sean_McDowell
. Can I just say how happy I am this book now exists? It's a practical primer on the need for apologetics and HOW to do it with kids & students. Pre-order one for yourself and your youth leader. Great bonuses!
It's almost OVER! Pre-Order our new book before the release date of May 1st () and we will send you an amazing pre-release package. Just follow these instructions:
If we’re looking for a cutesy, Valentine’s Day kind of love in the Bible, we won’t find it. But if we’re looking for the love of a holy God, we’ll find it on the cross.
It's times like this when I realize what a nerd I must be. I literally ran to the front door when I heard the Amazon truck come. Can't wait to read these!
I'm back to blogging today after a break of several months to finish my next book! Here's my latest, on a key point missed by the many responses to Marty Sampson's deconversion announcement:
Super Bowl Sunday is in a few days, and
#hegetsus
will once again be running ads aimed at helping rescue Jesus’s reputation from the “damage" done by His followers.
I did a deep dive follow-up today to my viral article from last year on the problems with this campaign. I answer
This is a perfect example of how kids need to learn to think critically about the assumptions made by people who make claims like those of Rob Bell. I'm really grateful for the work
@alisachilders
is doing on progressive Christianity.
I planned to start writing my next book this past week while starting homeschool for the first time. Bad idea...Here is what I have to show for my efforts this far. Yes, that is a cover page.
