Thank you to @ShahanaFromBK and my colleagues on the @NYCCouncil for passing #Reso0066 in favor of #DignityNotDetentions! This bill calls on Albany to end all contracts with ICE, making it so immigrants can fight their cases at home in their communities.

I sent a letter reminding major employers that the film tax credits we deliver come with the understanding that the AMPTP will invest in good jobs for NYers. I joined @WGAEast & @AFLCIO president @LizShuler outside Amazon to remind them of their obligations. #1u #WGAStrike

Let’s be clear about what a bail reform rollback is: it’s a political stunt at the expense of our civil liberties. Let’s get serious about public safety and get people the healthcare they need, rather than extracting bail money from Black & Brown communities. #TreatmentNotJails

COVID was a lesson & prime example as to why NYers need the #NYHA. We passed the #EWF & many of the recipients used the funds to pay their medical debt accrued during the pandemic. NYers shouldn’t go broke trying to care for themselves. We need to #PassNYHealth now more than ever

The fighting @UAW is in Albany!. Yesterday I passed my bill to expand student debt relief for public defenders through the senate. It was even more special, because the workers who are fighting for this relief were looking on in the gallery. #StandUpUAW✊🏼

You can’t rain on our parade!🌈☘️ . I was thrilled to join friends & colleagues #Seenin13 & beyond to celebrate the return of the @stpatsforall Parade! The rich history of Irish immigrants in Queens & our city is part of what makes the cultural fabric of our city so strong. 🇮🇪

Before testifying at this morning’s preliminary budget hearing, I joined @FreedomAgendaNY on the steps of City Hall to ask that @NYCCouncil invest more in mental health, not the dysfunction at the DOC. As the senator who will soon represent Rikers, I’ll be clear: it must close.

The stress injuries warehouse workers are dealing with have huge physical & economic impacts. Our labor laws simply haven’t kept pace with the explosion of e-commerce. Read more in an OpEd from @NYCOSH in @NYDailyNews .

Passing #Coverage4All will save lives. It is the floor. While we continue the fight for NY Health Act, #Coverage4All shows that NY values our immigrant communities, and not just with empty rhetoric but with the security that comes from having access to healthcare.

Public defenders, family members, & clinicians are with us today in Albany to urge my colleagues to pass @TNJAct. Treatment Not Jail is simply asking that clinicians - the experts - play a role in the court diversion process without having to plead guilty to receive treatment.

One day longer, one day stronger ✊🏼. I joined @MFJUnion on the picket line outside Bronx Housing Court today. This contract is about dignified wages & healthcare, but it’s about so much more. We’ll fix this affordability crisis by rebuilding the middle class with organized labor.

Carlos Moncayo died in a fatal job site accident in 2015, and until today, the value of his life to developers was a measly $10k. Today, I was thrilled to vote to pass Carlos’s Law in his honor, and in honor of the 74 workers we have lost waiting for this bill.
#NYSenate Bill S621B, sponsored by Senator @jsandersnyc, passed (61-2, unofficial). Enacts Carlos' law; relates to crimes involving the death or injury of a worker:.

I’m tired of developers treating workers in my community as disposable. AB Capstone cannot continue to prey on workers & tenants for their own bottom line. Thank you @RidgewdTenantsU, @NYCOSH & @NICE4Workers for bringing us all together to bring a check on predatory developers.

A few days after Cesar Chavez Day & on the 56th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination, I honored their tradition of nonviolence in the @NYSenate. Efforts to roll back hard-won rights are constant, but in the words of Chavez, “We have seen the future, and the future is ours.”

Mr. Molina died building a luxury tower, and his employers at AB Capstone have yet to call his family. @NYC_Buildings needs to put a stop to this project, and stop issuing permits to developers who have a blatant disregard for workers’ safety.

CUNY is one of the best economic mobility tools we have. Money for education has to be treated as sacred, not as the first place where our City and State enact austerity. I stood with @PSC_CUNY, students, & my colleagues to say definitively: #NoCutsToCUNY

#FreelanceIsntFree! When employers delay paying invoices, they’re withholding money that comes back to our communities. It’s wage theft, plain & simple. I’m behind @Sen_Gounardes & @freelancersu - let’s get this bill through the labor committee & to the senate floor for a vote!

Of all the titles I’ve held, the most important one is mom. Whether you’re a parent or not, we need to legislate from the understanding that there’s no such thing as someone else’s child. I stand with labor, faith leaders, & advocates to demand that our budget #EndChildPoverty.

I joined @GovKathyHochul, Leader @AndreaSCousins, & my labor family to celebrate a shovel-to-broom union housing deal. Before I took office, I worked on Build Up NYC with the unions present today. In many ways, the deal we reached in the budget is a continuation of that work. ✊🏼

Why is #GoodCause a racial justice issue?. 🏡 Black tenants make up a disproportionate share of evictions.🏡 Black women get evicted TWICE as much as white tenants. We can end the injustice this year. Pass #GoodCause and stand up for Black New Yorkers.

The current temporary disability weekly payment is just $170. It hasn’t moved since 1989. It’s clear that our paid leave system needs an update. @GovKathyHochul presented the starting point of negotiation in her budget, now @SolagesNY & I are going to push back with our bill.
