Moderate to heavy snowfall continues to fall over Oneida County. Some webcams have shown rapid accumulation this evening. Snowfall totals have been updated with increases over Oneida County. The advisory for N. Oneida was upgraded to a warning and S. Oneida now has an advisory.

A lake effect snow band will rapidly reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile. This lake effect snow band is producing very heavy snow at the rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour near Camden, and it could extend toward Rome soon. Use caution if traveling this evening #nywx

A dry slot has moved in and has either brought a break for some or has greatly reduced the snowfall rates. Seeing this and observations of sleet in NEPA, snowfall totals have been updated. Most areas were reduced compared to our afternoon update. #nywx #pawx

Widespread snow moves in this evening (5-8pm) and continues overnight. A slight shift more west with the expected track has resulted in an increase of forecasted snowfall totals & the Winter Storm Warning expanded. Snow ends Sunday AM but travel may still be challenging then.

Lake effect snow has ramped up over the past hour or so. In this MRMS loop, you can see the upstream connection we have to the N Great Lakes, which is adding moisture to the air as it moves over Lake Ontario, increasing the lake effect snow over N Oneida county.
