The Memory Stones stand next to Tout Quarry on the Isle of Portland, Dorset. Positioned so shadows are cast to mark the spring/autumn equinoxes and the summer/winter solstices, each stone bears an inscription to demonstrate its connection to the landscape #StandingStoneSunday

A little while ago, one of my finalists asked for a book recommendation, something to do with nature, that they could escape into post-exams. I suggested Amy Liptrot’s ‘The Outrun’. I got to see the film last weekend. Such beauty, ending on this :)

Where the stockmens’ goats once feasted on the seaweed, shiny stones appear in the evening on Goat Ledge at St Leonards-on-Sea. Released by the sea, like buried sea monsters their smooth skins erupt from the surrounding shingle in the intertidal zone, wrinkled carcasses exposed.

I stood and thought of David Almond’s ‘Skellig’, but not before Márquez’s ‘A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings’, as failure followed failure (5/5)
