Why I (and people like me) listen to Stone Choir. The truth is, people like @douglaswils think that there is some big group of young anons whose only pursuit is to spite the older generation and be really edgy. In my experience, this could not be further from the truth. All of the young anons that I’ve met irl (along with myself) are simply normal, well-adjusted, and faithful Christians who want to follow historical Christianity. We see many of the errors our fathers made from the 18th century (and maybe even before) through modern day, and desire to correct that, in order to give a better future to our sons. Almost all of our (spiritual) fathers have failed us, and actively seek our harm if we try to point out the errors in their ways. Yet they scratch their heads, wondering why Stone Choir has such a large following. What I love so much about @StoneChoir is that they are willing to seek out the truth, no matter where it leads them. All of the questions that the leadership class of evangelicalism will anathematize you for even asking are excellently covered on their show. Their podcast, by any normal standard, is extremely boring, yet young men (who only want to be exciting and edgy, right?) will sit down and listen to hours of monotone theological, philosophical, and cultural musings. They’re even nuanced! “Christian” leadership will continue to run smear campaigns against them because the existence of Stone Choir is an indictment on their failures. Young men have resorted to listening to two excommunicated laymen because our pastors have failed us, along with the experts in every other field. I, for one, and thankful for @CoreyJMahler and @treblewoe. They have truly made me a better man.
