Really pleased
@OakNational
have asked
@NATREupdate
to be part of a voluntary RE specialist grp offering advice to their teachers. Details still being developed but great to be supporting the work that RE teachers are putting into this as they create more lessons for next year.
NATRE is here to support all RE teachers with resources, courses, publications, lesson plans, CPD and great ways to meet and engage with other teachers. We represent you at OFSTED & DFE. We’re one supportive community facing the same challenges. Together we can achieve anything.
Dive into UK Religious Education:
- Over the past decade, GCSE enrollment in Religious Studies increased by 29.7%.
- RE students go on to study at top UK universities, pursuing careers in Law, Medicine, Politics, and Journalism.

We are delighted
@Ofstednews
are appointing subject leads again, & very pleased that
@knowledgerich
is taking on the RE role. As a teacher, teacher trainer and academic, he brings experience and expertise to this vital role and we look forward to working closely with Richard
Just to be clear. It is NOT acceptable to remove students from their statutory provision for Religious Education in ANY school year or part thereof, to provide extra lessons in other subjects. This applies to ALL pupils in state funded schools unless withdrawn by their parent(s).
RE must be taught to all pupils in all state funded schools- it is great that
@LukePollard
received this answer from Nick Gibb. The answer also makes it clear that RE must be taught when schools reopen in September.
Our next

@MrSmithRE
and
@RE_McGEE
. Come along to discuss what we mean by substantive and disciplinary knowledge in RE
To support teachers, parents and pupils who are preparing for the possibility of school closures, RE Today are working hard to produce a set of FREE resources that pupils can use at home. We will let you know as soon as these are available to access!
NATRE were saddened to see our anti-racist resources misrepresented by a national newspaper today but are delighted that so many of you find them so supportive, balanced, useful and informative. See our statement below.
We are pleased to launch Anti-racist RE resources: fully planned and resourced learning activities for primary & secondary, developed with a fab group of volunteer teachers of RE from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
Deborah speaking to the select committee, highlighting the urgent demand for RE teachers in the country and the abundance of job openings, yet the shortage of educators to fill them remains a pressing issue. 📚👩🏫

Ofsted’s Chief Inspector, Sir Martyn Oliver, said:
“A strong RE curriculum is not only important for pupils’ cultural development, it is a requirement of law and too many schools are not meeting that obligation.”
The report contains a number of recommendations for schools…
Farmington Scholarships are a great way for opportunity for teachers of RE to research, reflect on, and develop their practice. See here for more details
NATRE would like to thank
@J_Lyal
for the incredible work that she has done for local groups. Juliet has spent much of her own time working to ensure that there is local group provision for all! Juliet we are so grateful for you and all that you have done! Thank you
Sikhi, not Sikhism
Sikhism is a list of beliefs - a noun to describe a particular understanding of religion
Sikhi is a verb - to learn. To learn from the guru; someone that takes you from darkness into the light

Delighted that following our negotiations,

Congratulations to Reverend Dr Ralph Waller for being awarded Knights Commander of the order of the British Empire. His work with Farmington has really benefitted RE teachers.
Let's address the issue of RE Bursaries! 🎓💰 Despite the need for more TRS graduates, the lack of bursaries in RE is driving potential teachers away.
This discourages the best graduates from pursuing RE, leading to a shortage of qualified RE teachers.
Today’s ‘meet the NATRE exec.’ features the wonderful Ben Wood. We are grateful that as he steps down from his role as chair, he continues to share his wise words and considered advice with the executive committee
