@howaboutthenews It's wonderful that we live in a world where safety information is right at our fingertips 💙 Remember to pack an emergency kit if you can that can be used in the event of a fire, earthquake, or other disaster:

Hi Oz, we send alerts for earthquakes magnitude 4.5 and above. The one this morning out by San Francisco was magnitude 3.7. We understand that earthquakes can be very jarring close to the epicenter, but hopefully it wasn't damaging- we try to only send them for the big ones. Submit an experience report to let us know what you felt.

Hello everybody, seems it is Nevada's turn to rumble. A M5.5 #earthquake occurred today at 3:08pm PT near Yerington, NV. MyShake successfully distributed an alert to our users in California. Please see below, the map showing the region where felt shaking was expected and the region in California that was alerted by MyShake. Please remember to drop, cover and hold on whenever you receive an alert or feel shaking. @Cal_OES

Hello MyShakers, yesterday's M7.0 whopper off Cape Mendocino was the largest earthquake in Northern California since 1992 M7.2 Cape Mendocino. Back then there was no earthquake early warning, but now, thanks to ShakeAlert and MyShake, there is earthquake early warning! For the earthquake yesterday, we provided ample warning time to most of the affected area, as you can see from the warning time contour plots below. Tell your friends to download MyShake and be earthquake ready and safe!

@tigerfly22 @Biotechs_R_Us @DrewTumaABC7 Hi Tigerfly, the earthquake is considered a separate aftershock. On USGS event pages, it's possible to see the phase picks associated with the earthquake if you click on 'Waveforms' and you can see where the P-wave came in:

It can be a number of factors. Sometimes the phone can put the app to sleep if it hasn't been opened in a long time or the homebase isn't set and so we don't can't send an alert without knowing your general location. Feel free to send us a message at myshake-info@berkeley.edu and we can take a look at debug info to see specifically what happened

@magnifico_lr @MrPissant3 Earthquake Early Warning is the closest scientific thing we have to prediction (though it's not really prediction)! Learn more about Earthquake Early Warning here:

@MrPissant3 The Cobb earthquake has unfortunately been overshadowed by the Magnitude 7 by Ferndale- this will absolutely be analyzed in the future to see what happened

@MrPissant3 @BradleyThomas1X If you check now, it should be back as M7! The magnitude estimate changes frequently as analysts check data and the earthquake specifics get closer to being finalized
