H.E. Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, participated in the activities of the “Forum for Localizing the Cultivation of Organic Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in the New Valley Governorate and Presenting Investment Opportunities,” which was organized by Heliopolis University in cooperation with Matrouh Governorate and the Egyptian Society for Biodynamic Agriculture. Prof. Sewilam: - The necessity of using #modernirrigation systems suitable for the desert #environment, such as drip irrigation and subsurface irrigation in desert lands that depend on groundwater, to ensure achieving real rationalization in #waterconsumption. - Deep groundwater in the Egyptian deserts is non-renewable, which requires rational use of it to preserve it and prevent the depletion of groundwater reservoirs. - Applying governance principles in groundwater management, through forming water user associations and digitizing licenses. - Relying on biodynamic agriculture is important because it achieves water rationalization, and that the resulting wastewater can be #reused without treatment. - We are currently shifting to the irrigation system 2.0, which relies on modern technology to achieve its objectives. #MWRI
