Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development
Nairobi, Kenya
Joined June 2022
I sincerely thank H. E. President @WilliamsRuto, for appointing me as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development. Agriculture is the backbone of our livelihoods and economy. As I humbly take up office, I am aware of the challenges that lie ahead. This is an opportunity to also turn those challenges into opportunities. I shall, at all times, serve with diligence, integrity, and in-observance of the constitution and in the best interests of the people of Kenya. I urge all of us to put our differences aside, come together to work, heal, and rebuild our nation, for that is what true leadership is. This is to a New Era, a New Dawn.

Today, I launched the Nationwide Livestock Vaccination Campaign in Laikipia County. This three-year initiative will vaccinate livestock against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) biannually and Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) annually, aiming to protect our livestock and enhance productivity. FMD and PPR cause significant economic losses, with recent outbreaks in several counties leading to quarantines. The government, in partnership with County Governments, is committed to eradicating these diseases and achieving disease-free status from the World Organization for Animal Health (@WOAH). I urge farmers to ensure their livestock are vaccinated as scheduled to protect their health, boost productivity, and safeguard livelihoods. I was pleased to be joined by Laikipia Governor H.E. Joshua Irungu, PS @jmueke, Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Allan Azegele, KEVEVAPI MD Dr. Alex Sabuni, and other key officials. Let’s work together to strengthen Kenya’s agricultural economy. #BETAKilimo #LivestockVaccinationKe

For the first time ever cane farmers will receive a bonus payment for their produce. Today, I joined H.E. President Dr. @WilliamsRuto and the Deputy President H.E Prof @KindikiKithure, at Mumias Sugar Company to celebrate this groundbreaking achievement in Kenyan history. This milestone has been made possible through the government's Sugar Reforms, aimed at revitalizing the sugar industry and improving the livelihoods of farmers. As at the end of last year, Kenya's monthly sugar production had surpassed the local consumption demand exceeding the local consumption. The Ministry is committed to supporting the sugar sector, particularly in fast tracking the implementation of the Sugar Bill and in subsidizing sugar inputs and ensuring increased allocation of the subsidized fertilizer for sugarcane farmers. The commitment to empower farmers and transforming agriculture is bearing fruits, a clear shift from importers to exporters. 🇰🇪 Other leaders present were: Prime Cabinet Secretary @MusaliaMudavadi, Speaker of the National Assembly @HonWetangula, Hon @DrOparanya, Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, @AtwoliDza, Secretary-general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions, PS State Department for Agriculture Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh, Governors Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega), Ken lusaka (Bungoma) #MkulimaKwanza #SugarReforms #EmpoweringFarmers #AgricultureTransformation

I am deeply saddened to learn of Bob Munro's passing. He was a visionary leader whose work has profoundly shaped our nation. As the founder of the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA), Bob championed a cause that extended far beyond sports. He gave countless young people hope, opportunity, and a path to a brighter future. His unwavering commitment to community development was recognized at the highest level when President William Ruto honored him with the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) last December. This award is a fitting tribute to a life dedicated to service. Kenya has lost an icon, but Bob's legacy will endure through the many lives he touched and the transformative impact of his work. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace.
