@CompanyHooch To be clear, I'm not against the US funding a ton of foreign projects, for a number of reasons. However, "if the US won't send us money, people will die because nobody else will" puts into perspective a lot of things

@WadeLaycook @Max_Fisher I'm sorry but if you can't answer that, there's not a lot more we can discuss on the matter of authoritarianism via reduction of gvmt reach

@WadeLaycook @Max_Fisher Ok but if you go back to checks, you still need to answer this question you didn't answer before: are stuff like USAID or the Department of Education checks on the executive? How does an administration have more control over schools without DoE?

@WadeLaycook @Max_Fisher No offense, but that's not what we're discussing. If you want to discuss if Trump has the authority to take power away from gvmt, then it's fine, I don't have an answer for that and it might be "no". But we're discussing that people say a less powerful gvmt is more authoritarian

@WadeLaycook @Max_Fisher So stuff like USAID or the Department of Education are checks on the executive?

@ZeroAltair1 @ColterOwen @Max_Fisher So, totalitarianism is first and foremost defined by the absence of opposition parties (or real opposition parties), hence the term. So, yes, dictatorships are totalitarian by design.

@WadeLaycook @Max_Fisher You think authoritarianism is based on the absence of institutions that control how society operates? So the people are free to do as they please because weak State institutions can't control them?

@ZeroAltair1 @ColterOwen @Max_Fisher Can you provide an example of a dictatorship that allowed free elections and didn't control most facets of society?

@ZeroAltair1 @ColterOwen @Max_Fisher But a guerilla group isn't a dictatorship. All dictatorships have total control over the State and government, hence totalitarianism

@toiletvans We're talking government as in the adminstration, come on, you've already swung and missed once

@toiletvans Can you answer the question though? Since judges are not the government, nobody was talking about judges (who are all still in their places)

@CaptainRaba @Max_Fisher How is this admin concentrating more power over schools if it dismantles the department that has power over schools?
