@Teachers4Perm @GlasgowPam And yet you still get folk perpetrating the myth that in Aberdeenshire / Highlands and Islands etc. there are hundreds of vacancies that they just can't recruit for.

@captainrosa_ @tombennett71 @JohnHozack Covering classes if you're under 22.5 isn't a local agreement though, it's SNCT. Refusing to supervise after school clubs etc. is one thing because they're voluntary, but covering assigned classes is part of the job.

@captainrosa_ @tombennett71 @JohnHozack Yes. But our contract in Scotland states that if we are teaching for less than 22.5 hours, the balance can be used to cover other classes. So if they're refusing to do that, then they're withdrawing their labour.

@captainrosa_ @tombennett71 @JohnHozack They must be withdrawing labour if they're refusing to cover classes.

@adamboxer1 I teach maths, and during training I had to attend weekly lectures on literacy across the curriculum. Which is fair enough, because in Scotland it's the responsibility of all. The numeracy across the curriculum lecture was a token 30 minutes tacked on at the end of the programme.

@BlairMcNally1 @fiago7 Johnstone Burgh aren't a seventh-tier team. That support was obviously a one-off. They're lucky if they get more than a few hundred every week.

@BlairMcNally1 @fiago7 Look, I am a fervent defendant of Scottish Football, but there are literally no seventh-tier teams who get 2,000 at a home game.

@EISUnion @WLCouncil, whom I left in January '23, told me that I had been taxed at the correct rate and would not receive any backpay. Meanwhile my ex- and current-colleagues have received a few hundred pounds.

@PolitlcsUK Presumably those same folk frothing over Just Stop Oil will also be demanding farmers get locked up en masse?

@justinskycak One afternoon during my teacher training we watched the horror film Eden Lake and then had to discuss how young people are portrayed in the media 🤷♂️

@elonmusk "I wonder why no-one is having kids anymore!" wail super-rich people who can't understand what it's like for folk without their obscene wealth

@MsSammyMcHugh You can't just lower class sizes with the snap of a finger, though, because you need rooms to put them in. If we have (say) 210 S3 coming at once, we can house them in seven rooms. If class sizes are lowered to 20, then we need eleven. Many schools don't have that space.

@Teachers4Perm I genuinely can't believe the myth that "councils are crying out for staff outwith the central belt, there are hundreds of posts" is still going.

@RogersHistory I dislike textbooks because they devote huge chunks of page space to showing pupils how to solve a question. *I* am the teacher. *I* show them how to solve a question. I don't need a textbook showing them. What I need are examples for them to work through.
