Surely a failed business can be a great foundation for the next generation. Because I now believe that if i had a history of such, i would have worked on ways to avoid repeating same mistakes. But now that i am a foundation, price to be paid is huge. But I will Farm.
....and this is how I had to relocate and work my own Farm from the scratch because weekly traveling was hell expensive.
Start and build without any pressure.
What i have learned since from owning this piece of Land is That: even if the Land might be affordable, the cost of a simple yet expensive thing like a fencing might shock you. Not to mention other infrastructure.
Things that we get ourselves into sometimes😅
I started my farming journey as a reseller and managed to grow to having 500 birds per cycle. I've been in a backyard and recently started to experiment with few plants. 2020 I secured a 1 plot which is where I will relocate to and do both broiler and veges.
Funds ke headache!
Early 2019 I was then buying 5 Weeks old broilers from a farm 30 kilos away, I was feeding them for 1 more week and selling them next to a road. Being a reseller gave me an opportunity to build a market and I got recognized by few people who were also reseller, I now supply them.
So I've just concluded an agreement with a clients that i will have to supply with 1kg chicken carcass from first week of May 2023. I have another clients who's willing to take 500 birds per week and third client that's looking for 500 birds per month. My current bank balance....
I paid R750.00 for this land which is 1 hactor (100X100 meter) and later felt like I was robbed after this other guys told me that I should have paid R200.00
I thought it would be difficult having to grow vegetables since i dont have a borehole at the farm.
@Tsogang3
thanks for those first 2 images. I went to facebook and saw something similar. I have made a list of 16 vegetables that i will plant for my own use. This is power.
Man i can tell you with my eyes closed. It will take only once off cash injection to turn this Land into a full production in Poultry Farming.
No need for fancy English and confusing accounting. I have been self financed since from the beginning. I have that thing within me.
I've worked and made sacrifices to get this piece of Land to were it is currently. I have used resources that i could get my hands into, even brought materials that i could afford ( second hand ). I still work the Land with all the profits that are generated by productions i had.
I got into this business without a backup plan, if it fails I am not sure what I will do next. What I studied is remains what I studied.
This can't fail. I have lost so much and I am making this business work.✊
Start without any excuse. Invest with the little that you have.
From my Farm to a Reseller. The Guy keeps them for an extra week and sell for a R130 each. He doesn't play, he even said that he's already running Low on Stock😎✊🏿
(The picture belong to the Reseller. These are his chickens)
Maybe securing Land for the Generation after you is something you should consider. If you don't have plans for it now, i bet someone after you will have plans. The existing Land will make things much easier for them I tell you.
On the other poultry space

said " we need to stop thinking in thousands and start thinking in millions becase this is a numbers game, we are not coming into farming to be small, we are coming here to be big".
Here it is. You send me an email, we schedule a time, i present my business to you as a potential funder. I don't need to prepare for anything. I live my business and i know what i need to expand and growth this thing.
Wait a bit with all the RED TAPE documentations.
Here is 500 of them, they are all ordered and they will be ready on the 07th April and delivery to Vryburg and Ganyesa will be on 08th April.
Farming is a business and prices are strictly not negotiated.
My production expenses for this cycle are estimated at exactly R45 per chicken with target sales of 6 weeks (depending) since I still expect to clear out the stock at around 5 weeks (quality of chicks will tell).
If not six weeks then I hope to work on -R45 per chicken at 5 weeks
Meet Mr
@EverrightM
based here in Mahikeng/North West province. The Man is smart. He works the Soil with this Hand tractor without any excuse man. I get inspired each time a share a cup of coffee with him. You know how challenging Clay soil can be right? This machine do the work.
Early this year I thought I got it all right and that i will up scale my production not knowing that the chicks that i brought from my trusted supplier were off poor quality and I made a loss than having to make a profit......this have been a worst delay.
This one customer said " i am not sure how many birds you are placing on your next cycle but know that they are all mine" apparently they never get any mortality since they feed them for 2 more weeks after i have sold them at six weeks.
Start small and use the little that you have to get to the Top. No one is coming to save you. I have drove more than 25 000 kilos delivering chickens with this car and there is still more to go. Have no excuse and get to work Mo Afrika
Step in Agriculture while you are still active and have access to capital (if employed). Old retirement funds cannot fund and maintain this journey (based on what i have seen happening). Don't be old to realize what you have missed. We are Africans and Farming is part of us.
We really have learned and excelled in Broiler Production most of us, but need to pay more attention and time learning HOW to manage the business and what are the do's and don'ts.
Without learning this part I really think that will keep on struggling with growth and expansions.
As tired as i am right know. I had to make this last delivery to this customer that came here early and made an offer to take all the chickens.
Plan to sell during the weekend have been scratched out. Officially stocked out!
It is draining and sometimes feels like hell having to build your farm from the scratch when you only have you business as a source of income.
800 capacity coop on the ground, a mokhukhu on the other side😎. Dear

santse le sena di funds leka 2023?
After buying and getting all the documents for this land, i was planning to get everything that i will need for a fully complete fancing the following week. I got to a Hardware store and i was really shocked of how expensive fancing is.
So because i will have a lot of space not being used and the farm. It makes sense to volunteer at my fellow brothers farm to learn how to transplant under a drip irrigation, not only that but to have more knowledge with everything to do with Horticulture.
Last chickens Sold! We have already prepared for the new intake.
The winter cycle can never be easy but i have tried my best to keep everything together.
This is why i rather sell in Bulk.
They suggest 12 chickens per nipple drinker, so it would be about 8 nipple drinkers per 100 chickens. But i am not going with that to avoid competition when they all have to drink water. I had this bedding for 35 days and never dealt with wet spots, check the chicken feet.
Here is what i can tell you. I have drove more that 25 000 kilometers since from 2019 delivering chickens with this Work Horse😎 in and around Mahikeng and i was pulling a trailer most time. Never had any major mechanical issues and all the deliveries have been a success
SOLD OUT, i am not counting those 3 chickens at the back(F2) because they are mine and i need to atleast have a taste of what i sold to Resellers😂. It is crazy of how one can get calls from people that want chickens when you just delivered the last of those remaining.
From Today i am DONE with Failing in Business and i am fully prepared with all the Challenges that will come.
Now i am on a MISSION to get my 1ha into full operation. That will be a challenge that i will overcome.
There was a storm last night and this is what i woke up to. To think that i ran out of funds while doing this chicken house and it then got destroyed while at 85% complete. I guess what's left is to destroy everything and start from scratch. Nature is cruel man.
On my first delivery I lost 70 chickens out of 200 due to heat since I was delivering at mid day and I knew nothing about that. Now I make sure that I leave between 3-4 am since I'll be driving 229 kilos to 10 of my customers who are resellers. We make mistakes and learn.
There is nothing impressive about " Sole Ownership " of this business. There's a lot that i could have avoided if i was sharing a burden with someone else i believe. Sole Owneship is death.
Anyway, there is a trace of HVP Meal protein concentrate from
@Tersum2
on this cycle.
Tough Times! For someone that have no other backup but to run to our so called funding institutions for Financial Assistance I get shocked at most times. We are really alone man, hard to digest but we are.
I have made mistakes, had challenges. I have lost money yet i still find myself preparing and placing in chicks😂
No man. This farming can mess with how you think.
I have wrote down 2 goals i will have to achieve in the next 12 days.
•To reach an average weight of +2kg in each chicken in the next 9 days.
•To clear out stock in less than 3 days once average weight have been reached.
All this through good management.
How much do you guys buy a box of DOC? My Cobb500 supplier who's based in Lichtenburg have increased from R1150 a box to R1450 a box of broiler chicks. On the other hand the feed prices are also going up every month.
A lesson learned so far is: As much as we believe that we can make it in this Agricultural space individually, one should then prepare to spend years on building and figuring out how to get to a commercial level.
It can make sense when it's more than one person!
Do we still have Smart Tribal Leaders that understand the importance and the impact that an Agri-Business can bring into their Rural Village? Or we have those that see you as a cash cow once you start mentioning Land for Business? I wish to meet the first one though.
My 2 cent advice with buying a Tribal land for your Agribusiness would be👇
1. Firstly do a bit of research about the place that you are looking for. Find out who are you going to discuss the purchase with and what type of a person he is. Does he smoke and drink?
One interesting this about the chicks that i get form my current supplier is that i now work on a production cycle of 5 weeks without any doubt. At day 36 that's when i sell.
If you are using Android, i highly recommend this app. At the end of each cycle you can print out a whole report of your mortality rate, how much you spend on all your expenses and profit you made.

i went throu your applications requirement and i wont make it. How about an invitation to a business presentation so that you can hear my side of the story? I have a land that needs a development . ✉️ mrchickenenterprise

The mortality rate have been setting at 4% since the last 14 days. The flock shows no sign of any sickness and disease. Bio-securities are strictly enforced, both feed and water consumption are as expected.

This right here is the second cycle that i had during winter. It was hectic i tell you, temperature control can be a headache but at the end Sales were done and Farm keep on developing bit by bit.
Just waking up at this unproductive Farm is a Daily remainder of how Far I have come to even consider Giving up. This Journey have been a test and there have been a number of setbacks. I have made financial losses and had to deal with endless headache, but still Continued!
So today i made a delivery and i had to collect day old chicks from a supplier. I had a conversation with this other couple and they spoke about how expensive feed is and they had to increase from R120 to R150 each chicken thou some people are selling at R180. I was like 😮
There has been an increasing empty space inside this chicken house with only 20 chickens left now. End of a cycle is rewarding.
Hoping to learn from the next cycle while the temperature are increasing ✊🏿. I had a flue 3 times because of this chickens 😂 yoh!
After learning and understanding a proper Broiler Management, I know all need to learn Managing the business. This 1 ha needs finance in order to fully function.
@DALRRDgov_ZA
@nwpg_dard
I have been going in and out of your offices, I am not giving up. How can you assist me?
I really don't think there is any other way to convince anyone of your hard work other than a site verification that they opt to do.
There is a number of challenges that one hits before acquiring LAND that will even make it easier to expand and grow the business.
I plan to start selling these chickens when they are 5 weeks old to resellers if i will find them all alive next week. This has really been a challenging cycles placed in winter but the results are a prove of sleepless nights. Target weight by then should around +2kg.
Cleaning and disinfection of chick feeders done✔️
The other broiler house has rested for 14 days✔️
There is so much to enjoy in Farming. This coming summer one should hope for nothing but smoth and awesome production.
Already prepared for any challenges that might come✊🏿
15 days old and So far i think changing from Nutri feed to this unbranded feed was worth it. Previous cycle i got 121 grams on a 10 days old chick and this cycle i got 342 grams at day 12😎
I don't believe in " I've been in the chicken business for 2 years or so " even if you started with a batch of 100 chick early this year, once I see smoke I will ask for an advice from you. There is so much to learn from every batch/cycle.
Step into Farming, it will be worth It. Having to experience this ones growing to their matured age is enjoyable.
There is a demand for food each and everyday, therefore we can't make an excuse of not Farming and Selling what will later be consumed as Food.
If this business is your ONLY source of income, it is not that easy to make a decision to Pause even when numbers don't make sense any more. I have struggled to make that one decision.
So out of all the chickens that were sold out on monday at the age of 4 weeks 5 days old. Here i have 6 chickens that were behind of their weight and I decided to keep them for feeding and to monitor their weight gain.
Fellow farmers that I've had the opportunity to engage with can work the Land man. They are all focused on Food production part of the business and i always get impressed when they mention creating employment opportunities in the Villages that they are based at.
