Spot the odd goose out. 🪿🔍 @WeBS_UK A snow goose has been spotted at Montrose Basin for the past few days. It was first seen roosting with the pink-footed geese last Friday, and has been seen most days since, roosting on the mudflats in the mornings.

We got the most magical view of the full moon (or the 'beaver moon') over Montrose this past weekend. We even got to watch it rising over the town through our telescopes, which picked up so much detail! 🌕🦫

The second big @WeBS_UK goose count was on 10th November, and our volunteers counted...37,487 pink-footed geese! 🪿🪿🪿 This is a high number for this time of year, possibly reflecting the nice mild Autumn we've had so far.

A kingfisher having a morning bath at the dipping pond in front of the visitor centre this morning. ✨ We often see the kingfisher fishing in our brackish ponds, and in the Basin itself, so it needs to wash in freshwater occasionally to keep its feathers in top condition!

@julescoxphoto Peak numbers are typically in mid-October, but there's still over 20,000 every evening at the moment! After Bonfire Night is when a lot start to head further south. Sunrise and sunset is best. 🪿

We're currently enjoying a beautiful sunset (accompanied by the sound of geese, curlews, and redshank) at the Montrose Basin Visitor Centre, which reminded us: it's nearly our winter opening hours! From 1st Nov we'll be open Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, 10:30am-4pm.

We saw this goldcrest flitting about in the rowan tree in front of the visitor centre yesterday morning. ✨🍂 The goldcrest is Europe's smallest bird species, weighing a maximum of 6g, which is about the weight of a 20p!

This osprey (8H2) was ringed this year in the Highlands as a nestling. The ringers were surprised by how young it still was when they visited the nest, so it's great to see it fully fledged and starting its journey as a 'late bloomer'! 🦅
