This is not unique to surgery, it pervades specialties without long OR stretches too. And yet simple resources (space, fridges… what else friends?) can make a huge difference. We solve complex problems every day, surely surgery can do better.

This weekend I presented our research on breastfeeding during surgical residency at the @AmCollSurgeons Texas chapter. The results we found were disheartening. 246 women responded, and 64% said they stopped breastfeeding earlier than planned due to the constraints of residency.

@ErikaHamden ❤️ planning for austere surgical emergencies. Would suggest 1. More use of suction to control fluids (standard in OR). 2. Magnet mats for instruments when not in use (already commons for some cases) 3. Ketamine sedation and local anesthesia for cases not needing muscle relaxation

@mahad_minhas I explain interest in diverse teams, and that there are many kinds of diversity - not all show up in an application. Is there anything else about you, background, perspective etc that makes you a bit different from average bear that you want to share?

Can morality be quantified enough to inform algorithmic decisions? This 2018 paper says “maybe.” Also, when did you last see *40 million* human subjects? Wow.

as we've moved down the timeline for oats - overnight, 15 minute, instant - it's clear that we need predictive oats. Oats that exist before you even realize you need oats.
