While #COVID19 vaccine shipments seem to be taking off, Africa is encountering headwinds. Moves by some countries to introduce booster shots threaten the promise of a brighter tomorrow for Africa. As some richer countries hoard vaccines, they make a mockery of vaccine equity.

Very encouraging news as a 3-month old baby recently became the last #Ebola patient to be discharged from a treatment centre in #Beni #DRC . The baby is also the 440th Ebola survivor from the treatment centre. We must maintain vigilance even as Beni marks 23 days w/o a case today.

#COVID19 transmission in #Africa has been marked by relatively fewer infections, which have been on the decline over the past 2 months. This is due to a variety of socio-ecological factors as well as early & strong public health measures taken by govts. 👉🏿

Even if the new variant is not more virulent, a virus that can spread more easily will put further strain on hospitals & health workers who are in many cases already overstretched. This is a stark reminder that the virus is relentless, that it still presents a manifest threat.
