In March we sold 35k cabbages worth R617k 💸😝
Today farm gate price for cabbage was R16 😃
Midlands farmers are smart. They take turns to sell to keep the price up.

Gugulethu Farm harvesting 137ha yellow maize. A record 11T/ha. At R3,7k this is a big pay day. 🤑
Harvesting early to avoid the risk of wind damage so they'll dry it to reach 14% moisture level off site. Thereafter, this maize will move to Durban harbour for export 🚢

Herbs and baby vegetables - these are ideal crops for controlled and contained production. Hilton and his wife are making a killing and even exporting their piquant peppers to Germany.
Anyone interested in planting these peppers - these guys are looking for supply 🌶️
We’ve run out of space to plant 😢 Literally discing our last 04.ha. This means by September we will be out of cabbage if we don’t find a new place to plant. 🪴
This week one of our retailers wants 5760 heads of cabbage every day 🤪

Do y’all know how much packaging and storage for fresh produce costs?
Spinach tags cost me 37c each ➕40c per bunch for storage. I estimate elastics are 1c each. Then they charge me 2.5% rebate. If I sell for R8 I’m already down R1. What about transport and cost of production?
Did you know:
27% of women in Africa start a business. The highest rate in the world.
Women produce 62% of Africa’s economic goods but only 8.5% are wage earners.
Africa is now the leading continent for women’s entrepreneurship.
Let’s work ladies 💅🏽💪🏾🖤🌍🛖

Agriculture is like the stock market. As a farmer you should understand your product enough to be able to weigh risks and capitalise on any weaknesses in the market. 📈
We buy at R7- R10. Sell at R10- R12. We are not farmers. We aggregate produce and supply retailers.
Tomorrow I will post a link for a cabbage production plan.
I am not a farmer. The best way to learn how to farm is trial and error.
Thanks for all the lovely messages ❤️🙏🏾

Our planting of peppers 🫑 and tomatoes 🍅 is underway although a bit delayed. If you’re not organised believe me you’ll plant late and might miss an opportune time to enter the market.

We connect fresh produce growers to retailers. Thank you. I'd ask that we continue eating vegetables 💪🏾 and supporting informal traders too 💜
Agriculture employs up to 80% of the population in some African countries. It’s the best way we can create employment and elevate Africa 📈🌍

Do you guys know that Japan has over 33k business that are over 100 years old 🤯
Legacy has been a theme lately in my life and there’s so much to learn from the Japanese 🇯🇵 culture about this topic.
How Japanese have produced wood for 700 years, without cutting down trees.
Daisugi is an ancient Japanese forestry technique developed in the 14th century originally used by people living in the Kitayama region, because the territory was extremely poor in saplings.

It costs about R4.00 to grow a head of cauliflower.
It’s quite a sensitive crop though. It’s important you try keep an uninterrupted cold chain from harvest to shelf. While this quality control may be costly I wonder if it justifies this huge mark up?

AgriKool is a small agricultural business making a big impact! 🌱 After striking a deal with the Shoprite Group they delivered fresh produce worth over R3 million in just over a year & boosted employment in the KZN Midlands.

and I now know how to get your farm Local GAP certified.
What a process!! Out of curiosity, what is the real incentive for a farmer to do alla dis?
Msinga 😍 Yho.
This place can be an Agrihub. So many farmers and our Government has invested so much in the area. There’s klomp irrigation schemes, pack sheds and tractors 🚜. They just need that last big push.
Since yesterday we’ve taken soil samples at 17 farms. 💪🏾
