A 400 mile range for the Model Y would be completely counterproductive. 250 miles is completely adequate for the vast majority of the contiguous United States. In my #TranscontinentalRoadTripUSA I only once needed to cover a 262 mile stretch, which gave me an 11% buffer, but extended it to 23% by slowing down. The benefits of greater range are addressed by simply increasing the density of the supercharger network. That is happening inexorably over time and only increases the quality of the supercharger experience. In contrast, increasing a vehicleโs range by increasing its battery capacity only makes it worse in every way.
