I am a fully qualified Scottish teacher who cannot get a job in Scotland due to the teacher employment crisis, which the government is choosing to ignore.
Scottish education is a mess.

The Scottish Government has agreed to spend £12.5m to fund education programmes in Malawi, Rwanda and Zambia.
It comes as most Scottish councils explore education cuts such as reducing classroom hours.

Today I accepted a temp contract until April. A few months security then back to panic.
Sitting wondering when I'll win the lottery and get a perm post. I know I should be thankful and I am! But I'm also absolutely exhausted.

More teachers allows for more 1-1 work with pupils. It allows interventions where pupils can be given extra support. Lets not even go into the fact that children cannot concentrate as many hours as an adult can. The quality of learning is reduced if time is increased.

These are not solutions. Teachers work well in excess of a 40hr week already. We are professionals. Pupils cannot be expected to spend longer hours in school. You cannot just throw around ideas without experiencing the classroom first hand.

The Scottish Government controls teacher training intake. They are throwing money into student teachers, then leaving them with no work... wouldn't you call that a waste of money? There are plenty of figures on

Teachers are the most valuable resource a school/child can have. Cutting them increases class sizes. The attainment gap increases. Children are more likely to fall into poverty...

More teachers reduce/tackle these issues - currently the country has a surplus of qualified and trained teachers - the government has invested millions into them, yet throwing them to the side. This is not ok. Teaching is a profession and should be treated with respect.
