I am a fully qualified Scottish teacher who cannot get a job in Scotland due to the teacher employment crisis, which the government is choosing to ignore.
Scottish education is a mess.

The Scottish Government has agreed to spend £12.5m to fund education programmes in Malawi, Rwanda and Zambia.
It comes as most Scottish councils explore education cuts such as reducing classroom hours.

Week 2 of the PGDE is complete ✨🤩
I have loved it! My brain is feeling enriched with an introduction into various subject areas and pedagogical approaches!
Time for the weekend to process all of this new information and recharge before I start week 3! ~ feeling very lucky 👩🏼🏫
“The number of probationer teachers has increased every year since 2010…but we need to work with local councils to make sure these teachers get jobs”

Have you worked together to get us jobs? No. We have a surplus of unemployed teachers
Things must change
Jenny Gilruth’s debut speech on May 25th, 2016, addressed many of the very issues we are still fighting today—lack of jobs for probationers and the broken application process. 🤔
Yet, eight years on, we are still campaigning for change. In that time, many teachers’ livelihoods
The Scottish government control the number of new teachers being trained… yet they do not know local authority teacher numbers?
This is why there is a surplus of teachers without employment 😡
We need CHANGE.
@JennyGilruth
@JohnSwinney
This is why we have had to send over 40+ FOIs do individual councils just to find out teaching numbers
Why is this not routinely reported… to the government?

This is not ok😔 Teachers deserve job security!! I have been out of teaching work for a few months… have I got 7 years to go to? Change is a MUST.
@JohnSwinney
@JennyGilruth
Today I accepted a temp contract until April. A few months security then back to panic.
Sitting wondering when I'll win the lottery and get a perm post. I know I should be thankful and I am! But I'm also absolutely exhausted.
7 years.
No security 😔

Thank you so much for sharing this🤍 I’m so sorry your story is similar to mine, it’s absolutely awful and should not be allowed. We deserve so much better🤍

More teachers allows for more 1-1 work with pupils. It allows interventions where pupils can be given extra support. Lets not even go into the fact that children cannot concentrate as many hours as an adult can. The quality of learning is reduced if time is increased.
🌟 Assessment 🤝 learning 🌟
STEM FRIDAY: We looked at formative assessment!
✨ Assessment is about understand gaps in children’s learning, but also about recognising their strengths!
💛 Assessment should always have a child centred approach
✨ Celebrate learning ✨

More teachers reduce/tackle these issues - currently the country has a surplus of qualified and trained teachers - the government has invested millions into them, yet throwing them to the side. This is not ok. Teaching is a profession and should be treated with respect.
