All my life I have gotten a one week departure notice. A spiritual feeling that a loved one’s life in this realm is coming to an end. This past Monday I woke up after a long dream with the notice clear in my mind. Something was different this time. There wasn’t a name attached to the notice. There wasn’t a place of departure. The spirts just told me to get ready. I was in a funk all week. Friday it rained so bad that I didn’t want to even go out. The rain was super dramatic and ridiculous but ended quick right in time for the party. That was my first clue. Everything Friday night moved fast but was in slow motion. That was my second clue. When the girls called me Saturday morning I was too gone to answer. When I finally woke up and saw the message, my body went cold. I couldn’t see or hear. My baby girl Vixen. Not her. This must be an error. It wasn’t an error. It was my biggest fear come true. I’m writing this in tears. I’ve only known you since 2020 but the sisterhood we shared changed my life. Who would have thought that a Brooklyn girl like me and a Mississippi girl like you would tear it the way we did? We were made for each other in such a spellbinding way. If you knew Vixen/Vanity you knew that she had a story and anecdote for EVERYTHING. That girl could TALK. Vixen Jessy Raphael is what I called her. I would always tell you to stfu and now i’d do anything to hear you say “Yall Mad?” one more time. My sweet angel, this one really fucked me up. I’m angry. You didn’t deserve to go like that.
