I do get why people like having parents evening in person, but the fact that the online system we use kicks the parent out when time is up makes life easier. Stops people from going over their allocated time and there’s no option for “oh can I sneak an appointment in” either.

@MsGHist 1. Learning to say no 2. It’s not the end of the world if the lesson didn’t go great. Reflect and adapt. 3. It’s okay if you don’t know the answer! Subjects like humanities are so broad and students can ask real niche questions, just own it.

@secretHT1 During my PGCE placement, been there 2-3 weeks tops, sat in the staff room for a whole staff briefing and someone flat out told me (really rudely) to get out their seat. Never felt so uncomfortable doing the “walk of shame” to find a new seat.

We do our home-teacher conferences virtually, which has its pros and cons. But my absolute favourite thing is that on both Y10 conferences, one of my students has stopped the conversation to show me her cats. I love it.

This this this. I have major confidence issues, especially as a HoD, due to some people’s intellectual snobbery. Just because my vocab isn’t as extensive, or because I struggle with whatever else doesn’t make me any less of a teacher than you.

By the way, side note, I think there is an issue with intellectual snobbery in the profession. Whether it be accents, dialect, language, academic knowledge etc. a class thing? Ppl being ‘wordy’ for the sake of it. I think it can lead to excellent teachers feeling inadequate.

I made a joking comment to some IB students today that I can’t do the MA I want to cause I can’t afford to take year out, and that my plan is to find myself a rich husband so I can quit my job. The response was a literal scream of “SHE’S ONE OF US!”

@missgeog92 Yup, we had loads of issues with my science and maths cohort who had to do extra weeks for their first placement because they failed it. They were seeing it as a doss and a chance to get 25k. A fair few of them never got a teaching job, it’s such an unbelievable waste of money.

@rhiannon_mellor @MrTs_NQTs Saw this great thread a few weeks ago about all the people before Rosa Parks who refused to move on the bus. Highlighting that she wasn’t the only person to refuse to move, she was just the last person. Could look how their impacts that led up to RP and the boycott.

@TeachingMrK1 @MrTs_NQTs I’m currently in Malaysia. It’s absolutely amazing here, cost of living is cheap (admittedly I’m solo but even families I know here are more comfortable than they would be at home), some beautiful places to travel within the country and a travel hub for SE Asia.

Started watching geek girl and it’s really hitting home to what school was like for me. While I can’t relate 100% as I’m not autistic, growing up undiagnosed with dyslexia + dyspraxia (possibly also adhd, my therapist and boss thinks I am) made school/friendships really hard.

I still have a long way to go to get back into good habits with the gym, but since binning off work out programmes that took me ages and doing my own thing for 30/40 minutes instead, I’m having such a better relationship with how I feel about going.

I was going through a MH crisis during my PGCE, I nearly dropped out. So what did the HoD at my training school do? Make it worse by piling it all on with week in advance deadlines. One of the teachers was baffled I was still doing so much even at the end of placement.
