This is one of the greatest stories in the history of Aussie sport. Forget the petty parochialism that diminishes everything we do on the world stage… this is one of us, taking on the world, and winning. Ange Postecoglou belongs in the pantheon of the greatest Australians ever.

I know nothing about @AFL . But watching that #AFLGF as a neutral who watches one game a year, it was very hard to escape the feeling - from the umpiring to the commentary to the whole event - that everyone really wanted Collingwood to win. It’s just a sport for Victorians.

@MikeTuckerman @maureenjohnson I'd like to see our two nations set up some sort of cross-cultural exchange, whereby you head down to Oz and write a few columns about the #aleague for @TheRoarSports , and I pretend to know how to play guitar for a punk band opening for @theflatliners at the London Music Hall.

The @NRL is wild. They have a club with 34,000+ members in the @TheParraEels whose fans are rewarded for their support with a string of Thursday night games, and one Friday 6pm, in a row. This game could have sold out on any other night, but for the @NRL , only TV dollars matter.

Look, VAR aside, this #ADLvSYD game has been hugely entertaining. As are many #aleague games. Any time someone tries to tell me the A-League is rubbish, I just assume they never watch it. Because it’s fine. Some good games, some bad games... but more often then not, entertaining.

"And the net result of having a literal closed-shop competition has been dwindling attendances and diminishing media interest, with rusted-on A-League fans bored stiff of watching the Newcastle Jets take on Adelaide United for the 45th time," via @TheRoarSports #ProRelForAus #NPL

Don’t know what to say about that @brisbaneroar #AccessAllAreas . Incredible insight! Kudos to the @aleaguemen for putting together such a compelling series. It’s just a shame that, right when they need a bit of support, the team ends up showcasing the worst of the dressing room.

I reckon Milos is in for the most hostile reception the A-League has ever seen, to be honest. #SydneyDerby

'The club put some things about my jersey...I spent 7 years here, won 6 trophies...I deserve more respect.' Miloš Ninković has all the motivation he needs ahead of a blockbuster reunion with @SydneyFC this Saturday 🧨 'He's the enemy now':

It’s difficult not to be impressed by Mat Ryan. Gotta be one of the most determined footballers Australia has ever produced.

Maty Ryan went full Spaniard in his first Real Sociedad presser. Barely spoke a word of English much to my dismay 😅

If Australia (and New Zealand) truly wants to become a football nation, there’s one simple lesson we can learn from the #JLeague . It’s for fans to turn up at games. That’s the biggest difference with the #aleague . For better or worse, fans in Japan always turn up. Yet we can’t?

This is the biggest build-up to a #SydneyDerby in ages. Ninko helps. So does the new stadium. But ultimately, people will flock to this game because they care. There’s a narrative. That’s something the @aleaguemen has always needed.

Good to see the derby is on the back page. Remember when the Telegraph brought a decibel meter to the derby and it recorded levels louder than a chainsaw and rock concert. That noise will be amplified in the new Stadium. No other sport can bring that to Allianz.

Full credit to @brisbaneroar tonight. Turned up with a game plan, executed it to perfection, looked the better side all night. And the @brfcTheDen has been as boisterous as it’s been in years! If you didn’t rate Ross Aloisi already, hop on the bandwagon now. He’s the real deal.

Now that @WgtnPhoenixFC 's medium to long-term future has seemingly been secured, here's hoping they can transform into one of the heavyweights of the #aleague . Best away day in the comp, ostensibly have a nation behind them, so it'd be great to see them fulfil their potential.

It’s pretty cool that a bloke who played more than 200 @NRL games is such a dedicated supporter of an #aleague team. Great to see, @sowwowofficial6 . #WSW

I’ll have to tag @Peter_Fitz in on this one. I’m in Parramatta to watch my beloved @Socceroos . I’m looking at a starting team with names like Degenek, Behich, Baccus and Mabil. Why the hell am I staring at the Union Jack on my flag? Makes no sense. Time for change. #Socceroos

The pitch at Spotless Stadium (and lack of fans in the stands) just another reminder of what #aleague clubs have to suffer through by not owning their own grounds. The first club to build one will dominate this league. #WSWvNEW

Is Bruno Fornaroli one of the greatest imports in #aleague history? You’ve got to hand it to @MelbourneCity for thinking... “Bruno or Warren Joyce? We’ll take Warren!” Smart decision. #PERvBRI
