Recently had my 798th and final week at @theCCCuk. We didn’t get everything right, but I’m sure we helped the UK’s climate journey over those 15 years. 🦣🧵 on the CCC and UK decarbonisation, a story in 3 parts: The Start, The Struggle, and Net Zero
I think the UK’s secret weapon has been… Institutional design. Yes, subsidies and tech too, but everyone has those. The UK’s key successes have been the @theCCCuk, which took the politics out of the science, and a carbon price floor, which gave clear market direction.

Good to see @theCCCuk recommending a new UK NDC for 2035 in line with the Sixth Carbon Budget. As ever, now need to do it
We recommend the UK’s NDC commits to reduce territorial greenhouse gas emissions by 81% from 1990 to 2035. It is informed by the latest science, technological developments, and the UK’s national circumstances. It is ambitious and deliverable.

@piersforster @James_BG @neso_energy @theCCCuk @StarkClimate @david_joffe Can confirm that not just ex-CCCers but all the NESO team are thinking in the wider context of NDC, CB6, path to Net Zero, etc, as well as consumers, security, envt, etc. IIRC having a plentiful supply of clean energy can be kinda helpful 😉
