When I was managing editor of Artforum, the high/low dichotomy still existed. When the editors proposed putting Gilbert & George on the cover for the thousandth time, I said, “What about Robert Crumb? He’s a genius.”
The Hanuman Series Two pre-orders are here! We are excited to finally reveal new writing by Bora Chung, Vivek Narayanan, Raymond Pettibon and Mike Topp, Enrique Vila-Matas, and McKenzie Wark, plus a Cookie Mueller reissue. All info at
Mark Zuckerberg is building a 5,000-sq-ft underground bunker with a blast-resistant door & its own energy & food supplies on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Every day you read about billionaires hiding under or behind things. I guess that’s what makes them leaders, hiding like that
It was great to be repped by a big-time art gallery. My share of the money had to wait until profits had been skimmed by people I’d never met. Then I started getting my cut. The money let me buy everything I’d ever wanted—belts, canned goods, socks. I really started living it up.
I know Gordon Lish—he edited & published my stuff in the 1990s. Ruthless—250 words, he’d cross out 243 words & send it back to me. Also crazy—we’d meet & he’d be wearing a jumpsuit with his current work on two 3.5" disks, one for each sleeve pocket—“in case I get sawed in half.”
According to The New York Times some of the newer art galleries are taking a more direct approach and just turning collectors upside down and shaking them until their money comes out.
Some of you may be interested in passing the time by reading my upcoming book, which tells of my impoverished youth on Made-Up Avenue & my rapid advancement to old age, adding a number of exaggerations & falsehoods to make it sound better. (I didn’t know I invented the internet!)

This is the first record album I ever bought. I bought it because a cool-looking person in the record store was buying it. That same summer I won a free copy of Kung Fu Fighting from WLS.
After I’d sold a bunch of forged Basquiat paintings on eBay my inbox quickly became filled with angry customers demanding their money back. I explained that I had already spent their money but they said they wanted it back anyway. I told them they weren’t making any sense.
While for many people, style was, at best, a secondary concern during the pandemic, some sported KN95 masks adorned with a drawing by Raymond Pettibon.
I think our marriage works because I’ve told my wife if she ever needs to talk to me she can email me and I’ll get back to her within two business days.
I couldn’t be friends with the Jolly Green Giant after he stepped on my house. See how you like living in a flat house. See how you like taking your showers lying down. And carrying your pets around in your wallet. And inviting your guests to “crawl on in.” See how you like that.

Printed Matter says they want to display some of my zines at the NY Art Book Fair, such as Mike Topp At The Alamo, Mike Topp On The Monitor & Merrimac, Mike Topp Vs. Florence Nightingale, The Mike Topp Joke Book, and so on.
The Gas Station is notorious for staging the last show by G.G. Allin & the Murder Junkies. The show ended in a riot & Allin walked off into the East Village sunset with some new friends, only to OD on smack later that night, undermining his oft-stated aim to kill himself onstage.
What started as a legitimate effort by the people of Salem City to root out those that used magic or supernatural powers to harm others quickly deteriorated into a witch hunt.
