@offbeat No idea. Worth considering: Would you ask the same question if you were familiar with the technical details of Steam DRM and it didn't have "DRM" in its name?

@offbeat Fair point! I think it's reasonable to drop support for OSs years beyond EOL, but I can also see that it's frustrating if OS support is limited by the distributor and not the game itself. Maybe Valve heavily investing into Linux as a FLOSS alternative makes up for it a little.

@offbeat Important nuance: DRM is imposed by the publishers, not Steam. Even "Steam DRM" is optional (though it isn't really DRM in anything but name). Steam installs games to filesystem sandboxes, so they are easy to create a pseudo-installer from if you want to.

@offbeat That's shifting goalposts. I never see these points brought up as arguments for saying "you don't own games". Since they are valid points though: Which online account is *not* at the mercy of the provider? And what devices does Steam prevent you from using?
