Yesterday, Mayor Danielle Levine Cava announced that the landlord of Miami Seaquarium, Miami-Dade County, had sent a Notice of Termination of Lease and Additional Notice of Defaults to the tenant, MS Leisure, due to certain defaults related to animal maintenance and premises upkeep. The landlord also provided notice of additional defaults, with the premises expected to be vacated no later than April 21, 2024. This upcoming Monday, March 11, the tenant will deliver proof to the landlord that none of the defaults or violations occurred, have been cured, or are in the process of being cured during the period specified in the contract. Consequently, there are no grounds for lease termination, and the tenant will maintain possession and operation of the Miami Seaquarium for the remaining duration of the lease agreement, or until a court ruling dictates otherwise. We are confident that upon receiving our response with proof of compliance, the landlord will honor the lease agreement and allow us to continue providing the best care to all species under our supervision, as we do in all other sister parks. Eduardo Albor, CEO of The Dolphin Company, expressed appreciation for "… the strong support received from our staff and guests who enjoy Miami Seaquarium. We are highly confident that all animals will continue to receive top-notch care from the professional specialists at the Miami Seaquarium, as they have since day one under The Dolphin Company's operation and will continue for the remaining duration of the lease."

A letter was sent by Miami Seaquarium staff a week ago to Mayor Danielle Levine Cava, inviting her to come to the park for the first time in 2 years, to reassure about the animals' wellbeing, which she expressed main concerns about, based on information from the USDA. One week later, the letter remains unanswered, ignoring the offer made by the staff that cares for the animals. This is nearly six weeks after she expressed her concern about animal well-being and announced the beginning of a process of termination lease based on groundless assumptions. Still, had her interest been genuine, we assumed coming to verify the situation by herself was the expected action, which has not happened, not even with an invitation from the staff. It is a shame to see that information about the animals at MSQ is used for political purposes, misleading people who truly care. Mayor, how long will you continue ignoring communication from our staff and misinforming people? @MayorDaniella @MiamiDadeCounty @RaquelRegalado @CommishRR @AmericanHumane @GovRonDeSantis @eduardoalbor
