New: Rudy Giuliani visited a Delaware police station Monday to share files from what he said was Hunter Biden’s laptop.
New Castle County Police then called the state AG
The Attorney General then called the FBI.
New: Joe Biden will speak in Wilmington on Friday about “the economic crisis that has been worsened by Trump’s failure to get the virus under control.”
First Lady Jill Biden’s inauguration ivory coat + dress, made by sustainable fashion designer Gabriela Hearst, featured the flowers of all 50 state.
The Delaware flower was positioned at her heart.
The Capital Gazette is the reason I’m a working journalist. To say I am devastated and heartbroken is such an understatement.
Please keep my friends and old coworkers in your prayers today.
And then call your loved ones and tell them how much they mean to you.
🚨🚨🚨NEWS: Delaware Gov. John Carney says he will veto the marijuana legalization bill, which is a MAJOR break from his party.
But this bill has the necessary support to override
Three years ago today, we lost Rob, Wendi, Gerald, John and Rebecca. Not a day goes by that I don't think about them, their families or my Capital family.
They are the reason I fight for local journalism.
Press on.
And since a lot of folks are hearing about The Capital Gazette for the first time: It’s a scrappy newsroom made up of reporters who are constantly keeping elected officials accountable and telling stories of those in the community.
"I’m an engineer," said Georgia's Sec. of State. "We look at numbers. We look at hard data."
"I can’t help it that a failed candidate like Doug Collins is running around lying to everyone. He’s a liar.”
"One mom ripped off her goggles in frustration — they didn’t seal around her eyes and the burning gas had seeped in.
"She rubbed her face and let out a groan, but she didn’t leave."
In true Delaware fashion: Gov. John Carney and Sen. Tom Carper will be doing the state's roll call vote live from the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Railroad Station.
(This is from a dress rehearsal last week)
Big week for Amtrak.
I just got home from a weeklong vacation in Europe. And I find this in the mail.
Rob sent me an award I won for a column I wrote about unplugging from social media.
It won because of him. He pitched the idea and he edited it.
You best believe I’ll be framing the sh*t of this
Scoop: Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris will deliver their convention speeches at the Chase Center in Wilmington next week.
Not only do the handful of reporters produce The Capital, which is a daily, they help produce The Maryland Gazette, The Bowie Blade + a magazine.
The editors still encourage and support enterprise reporting.
All of this is done with long hours, little pay and fewer resources
New: The
@UDelaware
+
@HowardU
drumlines will escort President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris to the White House on Wednesday.
And during the virtual “Parade Across America," the Chinese Cultural Arts Center will represent Delaware.
New: I just asked President-elect Joe Biden what it means for the country that President Trump hasn’t conceded.
He called it an “embarrassment” and that it will affect his legacy.
When I woke up this morning (I’m currently overseas), I prayed that last night was some type of nightmare.
There’s been a lot written about Capital Gazette and the incredible people we lost. Rightfully so.
Here’s a tidbit about the newsroom that I haven’t seen reported:
Breaking: ChristianaCare, the largest health system in Delaware, is implementing “crisis standards of care.”
COVID-19 hospitalizations are at an h precedented level in Delaware.
Reporters have a fundamental right to cover the demonstrations we’re seeing in Delaware and across our country. They should not be arrested for doing their jobs. That’s not acceptable.
"We have got to grab our comfortable shoes," Michelle Obama says of the upcoming election, "put on our masks, pack a brown bag dinner and maybe breakfast too, because we’ve got to be willing to stand in line all night if we have to."
Today is my last day at Delaware Online/The News Journal. The last six years have been a wild ride. I’m grateful to everyone who followed along.
It’s incredibly bittersweet to leave Delaware, but I’m very excited for what’s next.
And if that’s not enough, during this incredibly difficult time, reporters like
@PhilDavis_CG
and
@joshuamckerrow
are informing people of the news.
They’re working to get tomorrow’s paper out.
In exactly one week, at this time, Joe Biden will have been sworn in as the next president of the United States.
Long way from Archmere Academy's senior class president.
New: U.S Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware “believes the President should be removed from office as quickly as possible. She’s long believed he’s unfit for office and now believes he poses a clear and present danger to the country,” spox tells me.
It was such a small gesture that meant so much to me. Every week, people took the time to acknowledge your work and told you how much they appreciated you.
I didn’t realize how rare this was in newsrooms until I left. I’m lucky to have worked there.
Programming note: I have a new gig at
@delawareonline
!
I'm the state investigative reporter, primarily covering the statehouse, policy + some COVID-19 stuff too.
I'm always looking for good stories. But I would also like your good gossip.

The day after Thanksgiving, Dr. Deborah Birx traveled to one of her vacation properties in Delaware.
She was accompanied by three generations of her family from two households.
Birx, her husband, a daughter, son-in-law & two grandchildren were present.
News: Delaware General Assembly announces *major* gun reform legislation.
This includes banning sale of assault weapons, limiting high-capacity magazines and increasing the the age to buy a weapon from 18 to 21.
Quoting what historian Douglas Brinkley told me a few minutes ago: "We haven't seen a spasm of riots like this since the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968."
It’s a goosebumps type of moment. People, of different races, abilities, ages and genders, are walking down Forbes Avenue.
“Look at this man in the wheelchair, that’s how important this is,” a mother said to her young children.
After more than two hours of debate, the Delaware House of Representatives passed a bill allowing people to mail in their ballots for state primaries or general elections, significantly expanding voter access in Delaware.
It now heads to Gov. John Carney's desk.
A powerful moment here in Delaware.
Marla Blunt-Carter, sister of
@RepLBR
, is one of Delaware's three electors. Last year, she had a stroke and was unable to write.
Today, she wrote her name nine times for Delaware's first president and the country's first female + black VP.
Today, hundreds of newspapers are publishing editorials about Trump's language toward the press.
@capgaznews
isn't one of them: "...The president’s opinion, frankly, is just not that important to us,"its editorial said.
WOW. U.S. Sen. Tom Carper just released a statement. He calls on Trump to resign. And if he doesn't, Delaware's senior senator says Trump should be removed from office.
He told
@tough_schmidt_
a few hours ago that he was against the idea of impeachment.
In today's segment of: "Things only Delaware Twitter cares about!"
During a virtual fundraiser today, Joe Biden was asked: “Do you have a place in the outdoors that is particularly important in your life?”
His answer? Cape Henlopen
Good morning from Wilmington, Delaware. It's Election Day -- finally. For Joe Biden, this campaign began and now ends in his hometown.
A quick thread by a local reporter who has covered Joe Biden for the last year and a half.
#netde
New: President-elect Joe Biden wrote an open letter to Delawareans about what the state means to him.
“Throughout the years, in triumph and loss, Delaware has been my North Star and home base – compassionate, persevering, full of grit.”
A fascinating look at how my hometown "became the first municipality in America to commit public dollars — in this case, tax revenue from the soon-to-be-legalized sale of recreational cannabis — to reparations for its black citizens."
I wrote a column for
@delawareonline
on Friday about what the Capital Gazette family meant to me.
My grandparents called the editor of their local paper (
@dailyherald
) on Monday about it, encouraging her to run it.
She put it on the front page of the next day's paper. 😳
Attorney General Kathy Jennings comes out *swinging* at Delaware Republicans, following the state Supreme Court striking down vote by mail + same day registration legislation.
Just in: The Delaware Senate passed a bill that would provide up to 12 weeks of statewide paid family + medical leave.
Every Senate Republican voted against the bill.
It now makes its way to the House, where it will likely pass.
I’m back at
@delawareonline
after spending most of last week at
@capgaznews
. Part of me kept waiting for Rob, Gerald, John and Wendi to walk through the door.
But another part of me knows pieces of them are always going to be with me.

REPORTER: "How do you expect to work with Republicans if they won't even acknowledge you as President-Elect?"
@JoeBiden
: "They will. They will [big-ass grin]"
Just moments before walking off stages, reporters shouted questions at Joe Biden.
"How do you feel?"
The Democratic presidential nominee pulled down his mask, flashed a smile and yelled.
"Welcome to Wilmington."
Well, it’s happening.
It looks like two big screens are being set up on either side of the stage, where Joe Biden will be speaking on election night.
Still unclear the access the public will have. Thought truly wouldn’t be surprised if folks stopped on I-95 to watch.
🚨🚨🚨
The Delaware state House just passed a bill that would remove all penalties for adults 21 and older possessing 1 ounce or less of weed, a historic first step as lawmakers attempt to legalize and regulate recreational marijuana.
It now moves to the state Senate.
Despite being out of the country, I had the chance to write about the Capital Gazette for
@delawareonline
and what Rob, Gerald, John and Wendi meant to me.
@ChristinaJedra
and I were lucky to work there.
NEWS: Gov. John Carney on Friday said he would let the bills to legalize marijuana and create a recreational industry become law without his signature, standing down from his aversions to recreational weed that put him at odds with his party.
Hunter Seefried of Delaware was seen breaking glass into the building of the U.S. Capitol.
His father was the man carrying the Confederate flag through the Capitol hallways.
As the students wait till 10 am, no one is talking. No one is looking at their phones. It’s completed silence among these teenage girls.
At 10, they begin with a prayer.
