For the past couple of years there’s been a big emphasis on the “golden zone”. Which is pretty much the cut back zone in the half spaces behind the last line of defence. Coaches are planning to get in there repeatedly. This forces the same kind of profiles on the wing and half spaces. 10’s have primarily become underlappers in a lot of teams, while the width holders have become responsible to find them and become the creators. Traditionally the roles were inverse and forced more creativity from inside the block, with the vertical stretching coming from the wide areas. Of course some teams still use those traditional dynamics, but there has been a shift.

@AleppoImrano It all depends on the data providers and their definition. Half-pressure situations with the player dribbling into space might count in dribbles but not in take-ons.

@DuncanCastles @TransfersCast Interesting. His stance is that players will get used to it. I wonder when he puts a deadline on it. He’s been training them for 18 months now. I don’t see it with the current scheduling for teams competing in Europe.

@1coldpolitik You can’t pin as much as Scotland in the Premier League. Most teams press aggressively in the Premier League. His model is only universally applicable after the teams are pinned. First phase and second phase has major issues which get exploited constantly.

@1coldpolitik Lower quality league, lower recovery runs, lower transitions. Lower intensity, more pinning the opposition as a byproduct.

@Ramon_Vega71 Well done to the players sure. My point is that the injury crisis in the first place is because of the game model, and not down to just bad luck.

@AskerovAzik Yeah.
Nottingham Forest are on the opposite end of the spectrum compared to City, and that is a major reason why they have been doing so well. They create consistent lull periods out of possession, while City do it in possession.

@Ayohugh You can end up running more without being that direct. Constant positional rotations.

@Advitiya2907 @MartinRafelt In possession side is fine, out of possession should be higher, but would want to look back at it at the end of the season.
