The children also took part in an archeological dig, where they were finding and identifying Roman items!

This afternoon children have been combining DT, maths, writing and history knowledge, learning about the importance of honey for sweetening foods and treating wounds. We independently measured ingredients, cracked eggs (not a shell in sight!) and mixed before shaping and baking.

A busy Roman Day so far for Otter and Squirrel. We started the morning with designing and making mosaic bookmarks, inspired by ancient mosaic artwork. After break we learnt about Roman coins, before designing and making our own out of clay. Some fantastic costumes too!

We were gifted a pair of signed drumsticks that had been used today. Jeff’s drumsticks are custom made out of hickory wood.

Today we welcomed a very special visitor to school, @jeffrich8 from Status Quo. Jeff held a drumming workshop for KS2 and then the whole school joined him in playing percussion instruments while he showcased his drumming skills. We absolutely loved it! @AnglianLearning

In Science, Squirrel class used mirrors to look at their teeth. We spoke about how you have 20 milk teeth and 32 permanent teeth. We also identified incisors, canines, premolars and molars in our mouths and thought about their purpose.

In Year 3 Maths, we were partitioning numbers to 1,000 by making different part-whole models. Mrs Searle was really impressed, and we loved the chance to draw on the tables!

Otter and Squirrel have been exploring the senses this morning for our English experience day. We looked at objects, smells, sounds, textures and images to explore different colours. We particularly enjoyed smelling the sweet white chocolate and touching the sticky syrup.

Kestrel have had a great few days back in school where we have started to look at WW2! In English, we have begun to think about the child evacuations in anticipation for our book, Goodnight Mister Tom.

A great first two days in Otter Class. We have been learning dictionary and thesaurus skills, discussing “When I grow up” from Matilda for whole class reading, holding a debate and making digital mood boards for art. Well done Otters! 🦦
