My latest for
@Suntimes
is a story about the Sones de Mexico ensemble ahead of their Día de Muertos concert this Friday. They’re also celebrating 30 years of history and musical tradition! Thank you Juan and Zacbé for sharing your stories with me.
LATINOS ADDRESS YOUR ANTIBLACKNESS NOW!!! IN CHICAGO NEAR CICERO AND CERMAK LATINOS ARE TARGETING ANY BLACK PEOPLE THEY SEE BY THROWING BRICKS, POLES AND POINTING GUNS. PLEASE CHECK YOUR DADS, TIOS, BROTHERS, COUSINS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. REALIZE WHO THE REAL ENEMY IS.
There are children sleeping in tents in snowy weather and City Council is debating on whether or not to regulate little free libraries. We are living in hell.
COME FOR *ME* BEFORE YOU GO AFTER ANY BLACK PERSON. Y'ALL MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. HALF OF Y'ALL HATE YOURSELVES SO MUCH YOU WOULD DO *ANYTHING* TO BE ACCEPTED BY WHITE FOLKS AND THAT'S UGLY AS HELL. YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN WHITE SUPREMACISTS (THE GAG IS THAT SOME OF Y'ALL ARE)
@YYhwach
@_annarebecca
Where did she say she didn’t find him attractive? People with this mentality think looks are why they’re single when in reality it’s the way you assume shit like this shows your insecurity
The end of
@Vocalo
is absolutely terrible news. I have no words, honestly. This is such a sad day in journalism (another of many recently) and it's awful to see how news produced by and for Black & Brown folks is never prioritized.

ños Year 3: 65,000 people
Did anyone else who's gone all 3 years feel like the 15K increase was a LOT?!
There are no plans to add stages in 2025. As media, I struggled with on-site coverage because it was damn near impossible to get around.
CAREER UPDATE:
Today was my first day as Asst. Editor for
@lavozchi
! I'm incredibly excited to join the
@suntimes
' Spanish section of the paper, working under the wings of Jackie Serrato (
@HechaEnChicago
). Cheers to new beginnings!
"I’m just so happy 'SAYONARA' is free. I think the big thing here is the fans and everybody that supported the '

Chicago please put the guns down. Yasmin Pérez passed away this morning in the hospital. Her and her partner Gyovanny have left behind two young children after being killed senselessly during a weekend that our Boricua communities should be able to celebrate our resilience. QEPD.
IF YOU ARE MAD ABOUT THIS TWEET YOU ARE LITERALLY A DEMON. It says a lot about you that you care more about tangible, material items that CAN AND WILL be replaced than the lives of Black and Brown men being killed at the hands and orders of the state.
28 years ago today, the steel flags in Humboldt Park went up. Now, these giant Puerto Rican flags are an official Chicago historial landmark. They represent a culture and community that are vital to Division Street’s legacy. So much history packed between these flags.
Whose, by the way, lives cannot be replaced. This is for Rodney King, Sandra Bland, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, John Crawford III, Eric Garner, Yvette Smith, Philando Castile, Rekia Boyd, Laquan McDonald... (the list goes on)
CHICAGO! If you live on the West Side and find you or your children needed breakfast/lunch, stop by Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos Puerto Rican High School in Humboldt Park: 2739 W. Division St.
They'll have 100 bags of food each day, ask for Carlos and tell him I sent you.
DePaul students are the epitome of spoiled because every time I tell someone I’m a 10 min walk from the brown line, they give me this face: ☹️and they say shit like “wow that must really suck, how do you do anything or see anyone?” & when I say I don’t use Uber they also lose it!
🌟SOME PERSONAL NEWS🌟
I got promoted! I'm now a full-time staff member of the Sun-Times. I'll be on the audience team, helping to get more going with
@lavozchi
, and providing readers with the bilingual content they deserve!
On 12/31/23, my abuelita transitioned. She was at home, surrounded by her loved ones. I will miss her terribly but I am so relieved that this pain and suffering is finally over.
Rest in peace, lady.
Since it’s edgy to hate Chicago things lately I’d just like to say I think the Taste is a lot of fun even if it’s overpriced. I always find new POC-owned restaurants to support and my friends and I love the free music.
Esta noche conocí a Chino Pacos backstage en un momento muy random.
Me dijo que iba a salir con Peso Pluma para su set de
@SuenosFestival
pero se canceló debido a la clima.
Shameless but it’s about a Mexican-American family from Pilsen dealing with issues of gentrification, CPS, gang violence, police brutality and immigration
Mexicans are always mad on Twitter abt dumb shit like not being allowed to say the N word or appropriating Spanish dialects that don’t belong to them like dude can y’all eat some hot Cheetos and stfu
@vox00_
I told her flat out that membership to a sorority is not an identity... she was so confused. To this day she won’t make eye contact with me on campus 🤷🏻♀️😹
Latino orgs and publications: I’m BEGGING you! In your celebration and coverage of Black History Month please put an end to the “did you know there are black Latinos?” 😩😩😩 we BEEN KNEW
So I haven't seen anyone really talking about the earthquake in Puerto Rico. If you aren't aware, a 5.8 hit last night and over 200,000 homes have been destroyed. Not enough news outlets are treating this like the disaster it is. Not even one tweet from "the President!"
Liza Colón-Zayas, best known as Tina in “The Bear,” told me all about her role in the new John Krasinski movie “IF.” I also asked her about her favorite Puerto Rican spot when she films in Chicago!
In today’s paper:
This is important because CPD, the Ald, and MLL are going to try hard to paint a picture of what type of kid Adam was.
They didn’t know him like his family and friends did. I think agreeing on this makes sense and can help restore a teensy bit of respect to a grieving community.
@vox00_
I mentored a group of 25 freshman as a sophomore and this is what all the white girls in sororities in the class said when we had our “diversity” unit 😭😭😭
I’m going through a terrible depressive episode that started sometime last month and I have barely reached out for help from anyone. But today I had therapy, and she said I’m making progress, and for someone to recognize that, I’m so incredibly thankful.
My sister (
@astro_amanda
) is an aviation employee, so this one hit home. Thanks
@FlyingWithSara
for calling out Steve Mnuchin and holding our leaders accountable for trying to profit during these times of crisis... all workers deserve only the best.
@Jose_07_07_
My post mentioned nothing about looters, just so you know. This is about the people that live and drive through there that have been attacked today. Take your ignorance elsewhere; this ain't about you.
Tell your fam to stop brutalizing black folks for no reason.
Hi new followers! I’m a reporter (among many other things) and I love Chicago. I’m a proud Boricua woman and I tweet a lot about my pets and plants. Thanks and check out my work at the link below.
When white people call me foreign, ethnic or exotic it makes me feel like a fuckin pollo gisao with arroz or something. Just compliment me with normal adjectives damn
There have been SO many businesses that were looted around the city that expressed words of concern and solidarity for the family of George Floyd and all others who've died as a result of police brutality. They didn't resort to racism.
Check your privilege.
MY LATEST:
Some Chicagoans might consider Italian beef, pizza puffs and red hots sacred. For one regular Duk’s customer who spoke to the Sun-Times during a recent visit, it’s a religious experience.
The majority of Chicagoans don’t even live within walking distance of ANY KIND OF TRANSPORTATION and y’all undecided liberal arts majors living off of Belmont on daddy’s money really want to tell me about where and how I should live??
