I’m looking to have character portraits done for the cast of my ongoing fantasy book series!
Thus far I have 20+ that I’d like to have drawn up. Drop a comment or a DM if interested!
And fellow

Authors, do you prefer to write in the morning or the evenings?
Or are you like me where you’re so busy it doesn’t matter and you just write whenever you get a few free minutes? Haha
Authors, where did you find your beta readers? My search thus far have been … unfruitful haha
I’ve looked on a few Facebook groups but most of them flaked before even reading a chapter.
Any suggestions??

So many great authors supporting each other, especially toward newer accounts! I love it!
Thank you to everyone who is saying hi and following, I’m following back everyone I can as fast as I can!! (I keep getting halted by X 😑)

Sometimes we’re so focused on the finish line we forget to enjoy the race.
Sure, it can be difficult. But you still get to decide how you’ll react to the bumps in the road.
Enjoy the process!
Apparently you can only follow 400 accounts per day?? What kind of buffoonery is this
@elonmusk
? I’ve got authors to follow here!!
To anyone who’s said hi and hasn’t been followed yet, I’m coming for you, I promise!
I’m not worried about tomorrow.
I’m not worried when that book deal will come.
I’m not worried how slowly I write.
I’m not worried about followers or likes or influence.
I’m in the moment, taking everything life can throw at me with a smile. And it feels pretty great 😁
Anyone remember when Lego sets didnt have numbered bags?
Where it was just all the parts all at once with no labeling? And Lego was like “here ya go, have fun sorting for an hour before you even start building”?
Those were the good old days haha

hermit might wear, or a bathrobe from the '70s that someone just couldn't let go of. The stranger leaned forward on a n old wooden staff, carved fairly crudely from what Bryce could tell, and which only added to his dilapidated image. He looked deeply at Bryce with cool blue eyes
and slight embarrassment as he glanced up. The stranger's voice matched his appearance. A man was standing at the op of the plateau with wispy grey shoulder-length hair that blended seamlessly into his knotted beard and rested on a plain brow robe. It looked like something an ...
Have you ever written a character into your story and then sort of run out of stuff for them to do?
I’ve got a minor character that was important in book 1 but really takes a back seat in book 2. He’s around but doesn’t do a whole lot.
Is that alright?
Is there anything better than waking up to birds chirping outside your window?
Blue skies, birds singing, morning sunshine pouring through the window, warmth from the blankets wrapped around you.
Life is good. God is great.
Do you have a routine that you like to do before starting to write?
Or do you just sit down and put the pen to the paper?
I prefer to have tunes playing softly and NO snacks around haha otherwise I just eat and think instead of writing.
Alright, I’ve seen some stuff where people are saying writers shouldn’t write MCs that aren’t their gender, race, religion etc.
And I’m here to say that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Writers can write any character we want from any perspective we want.

Why do all websites ask you if you want to accept a bunch of extra cookies now?
When did that happen?
Nobody is like “yes, random website, I was hoping you’d ask if I wanted to share more information with you”
To everyone who is interested, thank you!! Here is an example of the description I would pass to you, and then you in turn would work on an illustration for that character:
"Now what do we have here?" came an old gruff voice form above. Bryce jumped to his feet in surprise ...
What do you do with the pistachios at the bottom of the bag?
You know, the ones whose shells aren’t cracked open in the slightest?
Can you hammer them? Haha seems a waste to just toss them
Do you base any of your characters off of people you know?
I’ll take small aspects of people’s personalities but I’ve never written someone exactly as they are into a book.
Take a moment to lay in the grass and watch the clouds or the trees. Their movement produces a strange melancholy state about me that I rather enjoy. Like the world is passing by for a few minutes and I’m happy to be motionless as it does so.

Has anyone actually launched a successful Amazon ads campaign? Where you make more in sales then you spent on the ads?
Or is it simply a black hole that you send your money to every once in a while? Haha
I guess this is how X rewards you for trying to help life people up haha
Thanks
@elonmusk
! Could you maybe remove the restrictions though? Please and thank you! 🙏
@Pagimater
Both! I like to give a sneak preview of what the chapter is going to be about and spark the reader's imagination!
And then you need the number so you know where you're at haha
What’s your ideal number of hours of sleep?
I slept for 5 each of the last two nights (very out of my normal) and I feel surprisingly alert and rested.
When someone asks “how’s it going?”
And you say “good.”
You’re actively committing yourself to good. But you have to believe it.
Don’t just say it. Really believe it. See if it changes your mood.

I’m Nick and I write YA/NA fantasy and sci-fi adventure with a dash of philosophy and poetry.
I like to game, lift, run, read, hike, build legos, camp, eat frozen custard, ignore yard work, coach, and spend time with the fam!

Wild what a little sleep does for creativity! 😂
Remember: you are NOT perfect how you are. This applies to all aspects of life. And if you think you are, you’re lying to yourself and you’re stunting your future.
You can be better. Start now. Identify your shortcomings and grow.
Become who you are supposed to be.
Have you ever read a book and thought “this isn’t that good” even though it might have a million positive reviews?
It makes me feel all the stronger that my writing is solid and will be enjoyed by many.
It’s not if.
It’s when.
And until that “when” comes, I’ll be grinding
I often have to remember to change my mindset when writing overly abrasive or wildly passive characters. Otherwise I just start writing things I would do, instead of what they would do haha
Anyone else have this happen?
@Prolife_Sam
Survive!
No in all honesty going from 1 to 2 is a jump. Not sure how old your first is but mine was just over 1 so it was tough to be there for both.
It's easier said than done, but enjoy it! It's a stressful time but you'll miss it when its gone and time really flies with two!

Ah the first of the month: a time full of sorrow for authors everywhere as we watch our previous month's sales reset to 0
How can you combat this inevitability? Find an indie author you like and grab a copy of their book this week! Nothing better than seeing those 0's go away!
@GageWrites
I think anyone should be free to write any story from any perspective. White write black, gay write straight, etc etc. it requires more work to accurately capture how different walks of life would experience the events of the story, but we shouldn’t limit ourselves. Write on!
Does anyone else ever take their toddler’s words and incorporate them into their books? Haha

I think it’s a bit of both. We should of course be respectful of people but there is also an “earned” aspect from interactions with people, and likewise a “lost” aspect.
Basically we start at 0 (which should be common courtesy) and can go up or down from there

We like the journey, hard as it is. It’s part of human nature to pursue difficult things I think.
And the accomplishment after having gone through all the difficulties is what makes reaching the goal worthwhile.

what my next steps are.
Opening line of your current WIP
“I’ll tell you what, you guys need to figure out this whole rest area thing. ‘Cus if I have to dig another hole so I can drop a deuce, I think I’m going to lose my mind.” Johnny called as he emerged from a thicket of trees.
'Tureank the Hunter knelt before his queen.
His eyes rose to her face. It was pale and haughty, twisted with cold arrogance. He hated her. He loved her. He craved her embrace and knew that he might need to destroy her.
If only he had the strength.'

Readers, where do you look to find a new book/series to read?
I imagine it’s mostly word of mouth, but are you also looking on Amazon lists, good reads, or something else?

Captain America tosses his shield around, ricocheting it at perfect angles so that it bounces back to him.
Imagine how good he would be at pool, where none of his targets are moving and no one is trying to kill him haha
Fun fact:
When I first started writing Chosen: The New Order, I originally had it slated as a religious epic, with angels and demons and the like.
But I enjoyed the freedoms of creating my own world way more and pivoted to fantasy after the first few chapters

Is it customary to do full blown cover art for a short story, especially if you are only going to release it on ebook?
If so, I’m assuming (hoping) they are cheaper than cover art for a novel?
@RachelDenNefeke
10000% agreed! It’s really nice to be able to ask a question and get some replies from fellow authors. I saw a great one today about how different authors write their battle scenes!
Happy weekend everyone!!
What are you thankful for in this crazy, crazy world??
