Can you really call yourself a true commander of the Cavalry if you can’t handle your favorite overzealous recruit? It takes true talent to reign in such a clingy lion!

"Akit" has a suggestion for the commander’s next course of action, the commander might "suggest" he leave if he keeps plotting reckless, hair-brained schemes in his presence …

Just more lap-sitting from the cat. So many chairs in the commander’s office and he still decides to sit there lmao (I know what you two are 👁️👁️)

Masters of the elements? More like masters of evasion. These two have been juking out the grim reaper for ages now…

Fem!Kishiar, well
Kishiar is already the most beautiful organism with sentience in the Turning universe. Therefore, the only difference between the two would be the hair length, right? (Even the bust is the same/j)
Haha but for real though the height and build wont change much
My personal take on the white Commander's uniform is that it was only ever meant for someone like Kishiar to wear, not Yuder (and even he himself would think so). When Kishiar dons the Commander's uniform, paired with his already stunning appearance and special imperial traits-
While I think Commander Yudrein would be dazzling in the white uniform, I did have my reasons for not leaving it the same as in canon. The role-swap AU doesn't just alter their positions in the story, but the majority of their history as well!
As the figurehead and leader of this newly formed organization of stigmatized and dehumanized people, He is the one who stands at the forefront of it all, inviting others to see the Cavalry as a righteous and well tamed group rather than a pack of rabid animals.
Akit: Oh Nathan, this training may really be the death of me~
Nathan: Have you considered NOT provoking the "Demon Trainer" for once..?
Akit: Huh?
Akit: And lose out on precious quality time with our lovely commander??! No Way!
Yudrein Aile (not a royal family member, but a noble from a family very loyal and subservient to them) would be the creator of the Cavalry, which would not only stand to house and control the new awakeners, but also act as another sword for the emperor's faction.
Yudrein, ignoring his status as a noble, is an awakener like the rest of the Cavalry. He guides them forward through direct action, having enough military experience to fight on the front lines with them regularly.
The black Commander's uniform matches Yuder's cold and shadow-like exterior. The color being similar to the regular cavalry uniforms gives a sense of unity that I felt this Yudrein might prefer.
But when he himself wore that leader's uniform and became the "new" beacon, it felt wrong. Like a corruption of the natural order. Even with the uniform being tailored for him by Kishiar himself, there was a level of inauthenticity that was always present when Yudrein had it on.
His personality in this AU is considerably more mature and stern, and thus I felt a darker, more foreboding color would suit him better either way. He himself can remain a shadow that preys on those who dare to cross the Cavalry and the empire as a whole.
Yuder knew, or at least was convinced that he was never meant to represent the hopes and dreams of the Cavalry. He saw himself as "unfit" to bear that heavy a burden.
The AU acknowledges this discrepancy.
But it's more so for the Cavalry members than outsiders. It says, "I am your leader." To his subordinates rather than "I am their protector." to the rest of the empire.
Personally, I'm a big fan of horrors beyond our comprehension. Really gets the creative thoughts flowing.
Back when I was an early Turning reader, I used to strongly believe that Yuder was actually part monster due to his vague background... maybe I should play with that :0
I mean, It would be a dishonor to her highness to steal away her natural height and strength, right? She should be able to pitch a tiny farmer like myself far into the stratosphere with one mighty throw. At least, that's my logic : D
Now that they're basically country bumpkins though (although not your average bumpkin in "Akit's" case), they can roughhouse, squabble, and basically act as any pair of close friends would with no real consequence or alternative implications.
Contrary to the canon, as the two aren't separated by social class and share a similar upbringing, Akit and Nathan have a much more casual relationship in this AU.
I’m going to start doing "AU breakdowns" where I ramble in a thread about AU lore and the reasons why I made certain changes from the canon. Feel free to check out the thread itself, but if you aren’t too interested I’ll also have some related art paired with it : D
Yuder on the other hand....I might snatch an inch or two 🤭🫣 She'd still be one of the tallest in the Cavalry at 5'10 so it's not too evil. There's hardly much a difference
Once joining the Cavalry, you'll often see them attached at the hip, training together, eating, chatting, bickering, and exploring among other things. Rarely will they be apart unless they have separate tasks that day, or if Akit has decided to hound the Commander yet again..
Akit is the main "troublemaker" of the duo, whilst Nathan normally does his best to reel him in when things get too out of hand. He openly scolds and nags at Akit for his reckless behavior, who in turn takes his chiding in stride.
Nathan often worries that Akit's obsession with the Commander is somewhat concerning, dangerous even, but he can't help but feel some form of gratification when he sees his friend's happy and energetic face after a meeting with their leader-
You could feel in the canon that the two had a significant bond far beyond that of a lord and subordinate, but there always exists this essence of the "master-servant" relationship. That's not to say that their interactions are stiff or lack a sense of warmth.
@RoseNiji2704
Officially, Yuder is around 6'0", feet (182cm) and Kishiar is a near 6'6" (198cm) giant. 🫣🫣🤭 they're so dreamy your honor, as a fun sized farmer I'm happy to look up to them and worship from down here
Now, one of them can say, "This guy right here is my best friend" without raising a single eyebrow, or having to question what is "proper/improper" about that kind of statement.
They are fiercely protective of one another in their own ways, having left their hometown all the way in the peletta region to join the Cavalry together.
Rather, there's still a status quo they abide by (however loosely that may seem in universe) that has them maintain a certain emotional distance from each other.
I'd like to think that if the two Kishiars (Male + Female) were to meet IRL, they'd be too busy sharing their identical love for their partners to project their self-loathing onto eachother. It's nice to have a kindred spirit around, right?
While I plan to continue making more role-swap art, I am hit with that age-old urge that haunts every beautiful man I draw (be it an OC or an established character)
"I should draw them gender swapped.😳🫢"
Might screw it up, though. I rarely draw women 😅
@seloss_novel
He was a nobleman from the beginning! I like to think the family originated from the Airic mountains long ago, and when they initially earned a surname, they weren't too concerned about how fancy it should be. So, in the end, it still became "Aile"
@seloss_novel
They did hehehe~ 🤭 They're quite sticky in this AU as well, if Akit isn't with Commander Yudrein then you'll rarely see him and Nathan apart. I think it's less of the Lord/ subordinate vibe, and more "childhood friends with difficult pasts" (I will draw more of the Commander~♡)
@krajuaaNoi
I thought about it, but seeing as OG Yuder is the type to only manage his hair when it's truly in the way, I've settled on a slightly longer, tied up version for female Yuder!
@ThecatMochi
@Eve_the_Menace
I think so! I mean it is pronounced "Yu-dre-in" (same as Yu-dra-in) personally I think they're pretty much interchangeable?
@ThecatMochi
@Eve_the_Menace
I considered making Yuder an imperial, but then I thought "well it would be nice if his loyalty to the ruling family were only a front, while his heart actually resides with the remnants of the true imperial family" rather than just making him a royal himself
@Harry__riddle
The hiatus is doing wonders for me rn cause I definitely needed a little break myself (and I've just read so much of it in general it's so so fresh in my head)
Made the painful decision to stack the upcoming Turning chapters so I can read them in bulk a few weeks from now, until then I'll probably just reread from the beginning (yet again) to keep myself distracted and occupied. You'll all have to have fun without me 🥲🫣🫣🫣
