ā€¼ļøMEDIA STATEMENT DATE: 20 JANUARY 2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GAUTENG DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSE TO GROUNDUP PROBE INTO NPOs The @GPGSocDev notes the GroundUp article titled ā€œBeauty academy gets R64 million government subsidy in midst of budget cutsā€ released yesterday. The article exposes millions of rands allocated to two NPOs; The Beauty Hub and Daracorp. The Department would like to assure the public that the NPOs in question form part of the investigation taking place in the Department on NPO funding and some officials have been placed on precautionary suspensionā€¦. In the current financial year, the NPO sector is funded to the tune of R2.3 billion to help the Department in delivering much needed care services to the vulnerable. We remain committed to working and supporting hardworking NPOs in our communities and through the investigation we seek to weed out maladministration and questionable funding practices. #GrowingGautengTogether

More exciting developments with our Commercialisation Programme. Yesterday, through our partnership with Avis, we donated a bakkie to a deserving farmer, showcasing our commitment to empowering women in agriculture. The commitment to inclusivity is evident as our Commercialisation Programme intensively targets women and youth, creating opportunities for all; and by fostering partnerships with the private sector, we will ensure a thriving agricultural economy. Thus far, we have empowered 50 farmers with essential resources ā€“ tractors, production inputs, water tanks, solar power, and more. We are investing in the future of agriculture. #GrowingGautengTogether

A summary of todayā€™s FETSA TLALA food relief program. As many of us look forward to spending time with family over a scrumptious ā€œ7 colourā€ meal, for some, December is a dark month which reminds them of their socioeconomic standing, as many factories and companies close, abugereza have limited avenues to sell various goods and products. But as a way to brighten their festivities, both our departments, @OfficialGDARD and @gpgSocDev embarked on a massive food relief program that will see the roll out of: - warm daily meals for the homeless - food parcel & an agriculture starter pack for households ensuring that we donā€™t just provide food temporarily but sustainability through the integration of agriculture. Our 6000 Gauteng Green Army will help households to establish their backyard gardens and educate them on when and how to plant. And lastly was the handover of tractors by Premier @Lesufi to deserving farmers who form part of the Departmentā€™s commercialisation programme. #WeServeGauteng #FetsaTlala #GrowingGautengTogether
