On Tuesday, Yuma City Council appointed Leslie McClendon, a former City Councilmember, to fill Gary Knight's seat. We are sad to have lost Councilman Knight so suddenly and are confident McClendon will help serve our community in his spirit to complete the remainder of his term.

Enjoyed witnessing Innovation in Yuma at the GM Desert Proving Ground. The 2nd year of the 4-year EcoCAR EV Challenge Competition is underway this week w/ 13 teams from 15 universities across North America. The challenge: increase efficiencies for the Cadillac electric LYRIQ

Gary will be immensely missed. We worked side-by-side throughout the last 10 years. His loss is significant for the Yuma community and for me personally. Gary, you will always be my go-to Deputy Mayor!

Yuma City Councilmember Gary Knight has passed away today at 11:37 am, in the company of his family while at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix. Given the devastating loss, the City continues to ask that privacy be upheld for the Knight family during this difficult time.

Charges have been filed against 22yo Angel Alvarado for both the train depot & house structure fires. It is good to bring justice, yet it will never replace the historic building. Great work by @yumapolice1 and @YumaFireDept. I'm grateful for their incredible investature work!

A sad day today to see one of the historic buildings (old railroad depot) w/ redevelopment potential in Yuma Downtown South be destroyed by fire. The great work of our Yuma Fire Department prevented it from spreading. I expect those responsible will be brought to justice soon!

I continue to urge Congress & Administration to take action to protect our borders. There is a critical need for immigration reform,&this bipartisan bill is a step in support of enforcement. Thank you @SenatorSinema for including many specific solutions border leaders have asked.
