The government released the Devolution White Paper on December 16th, aiming to shift responsibilities to county councils and replace district councils with large unitary authorities. Councils had a choice, and sadly, mostā€”including Kent County Council, under Conservative leadership with Labourā€™s supportā€”actively chose to cancel this yearā€™s elections in support of the devolution plan, denying people their right to vote. Despite Kentā€™s push for devolution, the government rejected their application, meaning elections will still take place. This makes it even more vital for Reform to win as many seats as possibleā€”to stand up for local democracy and hold those accountable who were willing to strip people of their democratic rights.

The decision on which counties would or would not hold elections this year was made by the government. As we are not the party in administration, the only action available to usā€” and what we have already doneā€”was to publish a petition opposing the cancellation of these elections. This decision has effectively denied 5.5 million people their democratic right to vote this year, though 14 million others will still have the opportunity. Notably, the Kent County Council elections will proceed as planned.

@johnnyhornet59 @Kent_cc @ReformUK We have published a petition against the government, holding them fully accountable for the cancellation of other county elections this year.

Gravesend's Rental Market: A Decade of Change The private rented sector in Gravesend has undergone some noticeable shifts over the last ten years, with different areas experiencing varying levels of growth, stability, and decline. šŸ”µ Growth Areas ā€“ The blue-shaded sections on the map indicate an increase in private rented households. A rise in supply of rental properties, potentially driven by affordability, lifestyle changes, or an influx of tenants looking for flexibility. āšŖ Stable Areas ā€“ The cream-coloured zones represent little to no change in rental levels. Here, the balance between landlords, tenants, and owner-occupiers has remained steady over the decade. šŸŸ  Declining Areas ā€“ The peach-coloured regions highlight a drop in private rented households. This could be due to landlords selling up, shifting market conditions, or an increase in owner-occupation. Understanding these patterns is key for Gravesend landlords, investors, and agents. The rental market is always evolving, shaped by policy changes, economic shifts, and tenant preferences. Whether you're expanding your portfolio, reevaluating your strategy, or simply curious about local trends, this data offers valuable insight into where the market is heading. Whatā€™s your take? Have you seen these trends play out in practice in ? Letā€™s discuss. šŸ‘‡

The best comment Iā€™ve heard all week was from @BarryGardiner on @GBNEWS yesterdayā€”he said @Keir_Starmer should have asked for his money back after voice coaching lessons! šŸ˜‚ Given his coach allegedly traveled 50 miles on Christmas Eve during lockdown restrictions, thatā€™s quite somethingā€¦ šŸ¤”šŸš—šŸ“¢ Well said, Barry!
