Black markets are a global issue for PRA’s & governments (some T/O undesirable). A defence is to ensure punters in said jurisdiction are being delivered value & can ‘get on’; if market % (price to play) doesn’t appeal & barriers to place a bet increase, punters seek alternatives.
A report by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities on anti-illegal betting and related crime found that the number of unique customers visiting 22 unlicensed sites taking bets on British racing had grown by 522 per cent between August 2021 and September 2024. By contrast, unique visitor traffic to ten legal websites offering betting on horseracing had grown by only 49 per cent over the same period. Total visitor traffic from the UK to the unlicensed betting websites had grown by 131 per cent since August 2021, compared to 25 per cent to legal bookmakers. The report also noted that the 22 unlicensed operators did not represent even the majority of the unlicensed market visited by UK bettors.

Taking nothing away from the winner, El Tercero was excellent on debut. Will be awfully hard to beat at 1100/1200m next time out.

Tough task to win a Diamond off a 7-week break at her 2nd start, but the Maher stable have a knack of achieving seemingly impossible & Cherish Me looks in great order judging by her trial this Monday. Debut win suggested 1200m would be ideal. Reckon she's right in the mix.

John Kelton is a very good analyst. Finds plenty of winners, but additionally provides valuable insights into why horses can/can't win and how a race will be run. Doing a great job giving SA punters a leg up.

Scillato beat a moderate bunch on debut but looked (comparatively) like Winx in doing so. Landed a fairly soft BM64 after scr today, but put them to the sword with plenty in hand, posting very slick time (granted they ran quick times all day). Nice filly. Upside to come.
Scillato remains unbeaten, scoring mightily impressively at Bendigo 👌 This filly might have a touch of class about her ✨

7L below standard the first 300m, way slower early than the other 1100m races on the card (combination of track and intent). Rey was very comfortable going this tempo, ultimately producing the best last 200m split off be meeting; the backmarkers never stood a chance.

Spotted them a huge start, but handy effort late from Autumn Mystery who was home the best last 400/200m splits of the race. Diamond may not be his race, but he's shown talent in three starts to date.

I find sectional times really valuable in assessing barrier trials, much like in races. For mine, the clock is more important than opposition in trials. Even in slow trials, horses can show something. Courtesy Daily Sectionals, samples of a couple of key heats at Geel & Cran.
