I went into Central London on my lunch to briefly look at the protest along the Strand and in Trafalgar Square, and believe me it is heaving. And the size of the police presence is probably one of the most significant I've seen in quite some time.

This is the reality in a lot of newsrooms, and it's turning new journalists away from the industry in droves. Some publishers know this and to their credit try to find bandwidth for original reporting, whereas others see nothing wrong with the commodification of journalists.

As the night wore on in Central London the energy of the protesters on Whitehall began to wane. The protesters did not adhere to the agreed conditions with the

The protest became confrontational soon after, with chants of "You're not British anymore!" + "Where were you in Leeds?" directed at the police along Whitehall. There was a lot of racially charged chanting as well.
