After watching me hustle & reading a couple of my comics he said to me “you remind me of a young Stan Lee” (I nearly cried)

I think one of the hardest lessons in making comics is when you start most of us think:
“When I’ve finished my 1st comic, the industry is gonna notice me AND pay me to make them “
Then when nothing happens after…it can be soul crushing AND most quit…

Ok, so 9 years ago when I started writing comics...I kid you not the only place I had to write them was a food court in Stratford...when we bought the house my “office” had the boiler in...then HOLES leading outside when moved...
Today I get somewhere to call my own to write 😊

I’d say stop letting the movies influence the comics so much.
You don’t need to drastically change a character because the actor playing the movie version tweaked & made it his/her own
They CAN be separate
Also give creative teams more control over the stories & where they go...

It’s HARD to get good at making comics without MAKING comics, BUT you need to start small 4 pages, 6…10
Get better THEN do a full comic
It’s like going to the gym, you don’t walk in there your 1st time, pick up 50kg dumbbells & start doing reps

What was your first comic & where did you get it?
Mine was Daredevil 305 and I bought it in the newsagent next to the pub my day used to “babysit” me at when my mum was at work…he wouldn’t but it for me so I snuck out one Sunday morning & went and got it myself!
