Chris Maguires name has not been mentioned once by any Sunderland fan the whole season. Now all of a sudden, everyone thinks we were wrong to let him go. We weren't. We absolutely weren't. He is the typical League One plodder who we are trying to move away from.
If we sacked Speakman or he left, I’m almost certain we’d look back and realise that he actually did a lot of good.
The hate he gets is beyond me.
Yes, he has made mistakes. We have all done that. But he’s also done a lot of good work too.

Somebody robs you and you're saying the first thing to do is to feel empathy towards them and get all philosophical about it. Fuck that mate, they've just stolen something which you've worked hard for. Anger is likely the first emotion. Come on Bruce.
I don’t think I’ll ever feel elation quite like I did when that ball hit the back of the net for the Ross Stewart goal at Wembley. Honestly, I can’t explain it. It’s just….magical, euphoric relief. It made every single shitty second of League One almost worth it. Amazing.
#SAFC
I do feel sometimes it’s not always the boards fault. If Alex Neil insisted on a rolling contract and the clause to speak to other teams, that’s all down to Alex Neil than the board. We’re sometimes quick to blame them for things which actually don’t know the full story on.
#SAFC
If the worst happens tomorrow and SAFC get beat, can we please not come out with all the usual 'bottlers' guff. They've actually managed to field a team tomorrow where many have just postponed without a thought. Immense credit for even playing the game tomorrow.
#SAFC
Three years ago.
Today, Rochdale are relegated to Non League. We sit a point outside the Championship play offs. Unbelievable to think how quickly things can change in Football. For good and bad!
I see the knives are already being sharpened for Lee Johnson for if we don't sign Defoe. Nevermind there could be many other reasons he doesn't sign. He should NOT sign a player purely because the fans are clamouring for it.
People have literally no faith at all in the club so they? The club are working on signings. Alex Neil even said so. But I actually believe they’ve got it all in hand. I’d rather it take a bit longer to get the right players in than rush and get anyone just for the sake of it.
I desperately want to go up this season, of course I do, but if we don’t then I have full faith that Alex Neil will do the job next season. I think the bloke is doing a good job. Say what you like about him but the we’re suddenly hard to beat and playing till the very end.
#SAFC
Can we all please just stop writing off players before they've signed?
Just because you haven't heard of them, it doesn't mean they're crap. Just because they are young, it doesn't mean they're crap.
It's getting boring.
#SAFC
I’m not sure that I think Abdoullah Ba is actually THAT bad. I know he’s out form but I think there’s a player in there. Just needs some confidence injected in him.
#SAFC
Some fans - We need to stop this losing streak and win a game!
*SAFC win*
Some fans - Yeah but we're still not good enough. We didn't deserve to win though.
Just enjoy the win and understand we just needed to win regardless!!
#SAFC
Few things…
1.) The term ‘happy clapper’ is annoying me. I’ve never known this fanbase to be so toxic to each other for simply having a different opinion.
It’s perfectly possible, and acceptable, for us all to have different opinions. Just because we don’t hate the owners
As Sunderland fans, we've long stated we will not 'accept mediocrity'
The club itself is not doing that in its transfer business. Its aiming higher than players who will 'do a job'
We should commend that rather than compare them with other League One clubs who have signed many.
Just what is so wrong with Liam Rosenior? He’s not some continental name but he’s not too bad. Most people surprised when Hull City sacked him.
Young, clearly got something about him, and certainly isn’t some arrogant prick like Beale.
#SAFC
Social media has genuinely made me feel worse about supporting SAFC than the actual on field performances.
It’s just a long stream of negativity and toxicity that I just can’t be dealing with seeing anymore.
I think Lee Johnson is certainly starting to get his message across. Charlie Wyke and Conor McLaughlin have improved massively since LJ came in I think! Starting to feel we're slowly turning this ship around. It's been a good week!
#SAFC
@SML_0917
@piersmorgan
That’s exactly what he is saying. They chose Ukraine out of support instead of the musical choice they presented. This is a contest about music. Nothing else.
@IcelandFoods
@JSheeeeeehan
Hey Iceland, leave him alone. Absolutely nobody is offended by this. He is working and earning his money. Thats to be commended.
Regis Le Bris. I know absolutely nothing about him. Like nearly every other one of you. Yet he’s ALREADY been wrote of as shite, a yes man, cheap and underwhelming.
We know NOTHING about him. If it’s him, give him a chance.
It's staggering how so many people are honestly now claiming this team aren't good enough or that we're never going to get promoted. We've won nearly every week this season.
Have a word with yourselves. We are not going to win every week. We will have shit days.
I like Ross Stewart. But actually, most of our success in the Championship has come without him.
He’s out so long I don’t even think about him as much nowadays. He barely feels an option.
Sell him. Reinvest and move on.
#SAFC
I just want to say, if Sunderland don’t sign a striker tonight, it’s not because Speakman is crap. I’m not sure he, or anyone, would expect to be looking for a replacement for Ross Stewart with three days left in the window.
By the way, Ross Stewarts second goal was some finish. All started from Dan Neil driving towards players. When have we had someone who does that?!
#SAFC
Some Sunderland fans..
FANS - Sign a striker! The owner is skint. Sign someone.
CLUB - *Seems to be closing in a striker for a fee*
FANS - Not that one!
Honestly, some of you are just never happy. What are you ACTUALLY expecting? I’m curious, not having a dig.
The club have done the right thing yet there are STILL people finding a way to relate this back to the ownership. Claiming it's because we're desperate for the Sky money. Still claiming it's penny pinching by Madrox. The club can't do right for doing wrong.
#SAFC
That performance today didn't seem like one from a set of players who don't want to play for the manager? I thought it was full of spirit and determination and and real togetherness. I'm actually happy with that.
#SAFC
As a Premier League club, we threw stupid amounts of money at players to get them to sign. It all went horribly wrong and we are now in League One. As I can tell, we were very close to failing to even exist.
But yet fuck me, there is fans who are demanding we do the same again!
Our business this transfer window has been brilliant. Genuinely brilliant. Hats off. I genuinely don't believe another club in League One could sign these players. Yes, I am biased. Hats off to the club.

Still currently manager of Doncaster Rovers. Also had Sol Campbell. Nuno at Wolves is mixed race. Chris Hughton managed in the Premier League.
Paul Ince managed Blackburn. Chris Powell managed Charlton for a while too.
@maiseydavisonx
That's to be expected. But you got to remember, she'll always be there. I'm a single parent too, similar situation re the bank account but it's ok. My little lad continues to be the glue that holds everything together.
@ImogenDempsey39
@SusanMichie
I’m chill about it because I have had it and felt nothing. Unfortunately it’s not that way for everyone but millions have found it the same way as me. Hence why we’re all so chill.
Controversial opinion here but I dont get all this bottlejobs stuff. We lost away narrowly to a team who are now top of the table. Coventry have only lost 3 times this season. It was always going to be tough! Its not 'doing a Sunderland' at all.
@SunderlandAFC
Sunderland fans: What does Josh Scowen have to do to start? Why is Wyke starting?
*PP starts Scowen and drops Wyke*
Sunderland fans : Why isn't he playing Dan Neil?!
I'm not Parkys biggest fan but let the bloke get on with his job!
@joshmontage656
@SunderlandAFC
I think it’s a veiled one yeah! Almost saying ‘This manager actually understands what we’re trying to do and has full clarity in how we operate’
Has Johnson turned round the bad form? We were desperate for the losing run to end and now we're unbeaten in 4 and two points off top. Is that really THAT bad?
The upcoming two home games are massive. We could potentially be top of the league by this time next week.
#SAFC
I'm not going to sound so fickle as to say that Phil Parkinson is all of a sudden the right man for us. What I will say though, is he has earned the right to show us he can be.
The results and performances have improved - all credit to him for that.
#SAFC
@SunderlandAFC
I like this lad. Talks a lot of sense and doesn't hide behind the fact we have lots to do. Refreshing to hear that since the last twat we had in charge didn't seem to have a clue. What Lee Johnson considers a lot of work to do, Parkinson was content with it seemed!
#Standards
@AshmanJase
To be fair, both teams had to play in it. We should take it on the chin and learn from it. Bad day at the office. It happens. Onwards and upwards.
Some Sunderland fans baffle me. They rage at signing young up and coming players while in the same breath get annoyed we haven’t signed M’Vila, who’s in his 30s and hasn’t played for us for years.
M’Vila was great for us…8 years ago. He’s 34 this year!
#SAFC
Regardless of tonight, it doesn’t define nothing. We’ve had a decent start to the league. We’re gonna get beat at some point. This is a decent Sheffield Utd team and our first league defeat in how long? We’ll be fine. Chill.
A few unsure of the Bass signing which is fair enough. I’m ok with it but I personally can’t think of any signing in the Speakman era which has been a disaster.
Some have worked better than others but I feel that’s transfers generally.
I know we’re all deflated at losing Ross Stewart but Mowbray might have a system to get us playing without him. He’s an experienced manager. He knows what he’s doing. All might be just fine.
#SAFC
If you think that I’ll be taking the Coronavirus vaccine without knowing what’s in it, you’re absolutely right. I will be.
I don’t really know what’s in doner meat yet I eat that once a week so I’m sure I’ll be fine.
@RokerReport
O'Brien is showing himself to be a decent player under Lee Johnson. He is working hard up front and starting to be a better player for it. Plus, he looks angry. All the time.
May be overreacting but that today feels like maybe the best win this season.
Hit by injuries, away from home against a team playing Premier League Football last season, digging deep and working hard. It feels like Stoke last week is completely out of mind now for me.
#SAFC
Phil Parkinson MUST go. This has been more than a disaster. This has been fucking catastrophic.
Absolutely shocking!
The decline of SAFC under him has been horrific.
#SAFC
#ParkinsonOut
It feels weird to say that we got ‘revenge’ on QPR for their late goals at the Stadium of Light but I take a bit of comfort that the player who scored their free kick had a penalty saved and the keeper who scored made a howler to let one in.
I’ll take that.
#SAFC
@AshmanJase
Jase Ashman. Complains when we haven’t signed any new players. Signs a new player. Still complains as it’s not the position he wants.
Honestly mate. When are you ever happy?
After winning all one but of their previous games, its important to not let this result push us back towards the mindset of us not being good enough. I actually think we are now. Just a reminder today that we'll have bumps along the way.
#SAFC
I’m happy to admit that I was SO wrong about Alex Neil. When he first came in, I was a bit non plussed about his appointment. I am so pleased to be wrong. He is THE man and I genuinely think he is the perfect appointment for us. He fits perfectly. Come onnnn!
#SAFC
I have just watched that Tom Flanagan interview. I'm definitely not the first to say it but there is a lad who seems genuinely delighted to be with us!
#SAFC
@Bret63350027494
How can you ever berate fans for supporting their club? I’m not happy with the way things are but wouldn’t ever knock anyone for supporting the club how they see fit.
All of this ‘100 days without a manager’ is said purely without context.
80% of those days were spent with Dodds in charge, which is exactly what the club said would be the case.
Calm down. It’s not even the end of May.
I completely understand every reason to be well and truly pissed off with the club at the minute, I can see good reason for everybodies frustrations. But one thing which I can't agree with, as it is totally ridiculous, is the notion that KLD is Donald and Methvens puppet.
It boggles the mind how
#SAFC
fans are complaining that Stewart Donald hasn't thrown money at signings when it was throwing money at overpriced signings which put us in this situation in the first place.
Did you all forget what our club was going through before he arrived?
In fairness, Newcastle United are just that much better than us. Feels worse as it’s them. If this was Aston Villa or someone else like that, we’d probably just acknowledge the difference in class a bit easier.
#SAFC
Unless we know exactly what we’re offering to Ross Stewart, it’s hard to slam the club for anything isn’t it? We might be offering a very competitive wage but he’s pushing for more.
Some people think it’s always the club to blame by default.
@RokerReport
I think he’s probably got some things right, and some things wrong. I think he has identified and got some good players through the door.
The Johnson sacking / replacement didn’t go smoothly but it was the right appointment in the end. We’re all human and make mistakes.
Quality over quantity is starting to show its worth. Its been a good pre season, signed genuine quality and we've won the first two games of our season. Things are looking promising.
#SAFC
I'm personally not all that bothered that we haven't had an official announcement regarding Alex Neil yet.
He's with the squad and he's started working with them. That's much more important to me.
#SAFC
@DavidHindmarsh7
@RokerReport
I actually believe he does. For all his faults here, and of course there has been many. I believe, probably naively, that it wasn't because he didn't care. I think he just made a cock up of the whole thing and bounced from one shit decision to another.
@Philip_RJ89
I feel that this also proves that Jack Clarke is clearly happy here. That’s not to say he wouldn’t move on, but he’s not sulking about not getting a move etc.
Next time there is an alleged 'shortage' of anything, it would be nice if the press didn't report it. Then we wouldn't enter in to this frenzy of stockpiling stuff, therefore actually creating a shortage.
Honestly, the absolute panic some people go in to is ridiculous!
@mickylough95
Nothing wrong with appreciating some decency. NONE of us would want to see some of the results that happened under his watch but he's paid the price for it. Let him have his say. We always wanted people to WANT to be here. He clearly did.
You can be either behind Lee Johnson or you can want him sacked. I understand peoples reasons behind both. But one thing I just don't get is why people are so desperate for Nigel Pearson to be our manager. He's done absolutely NOTHING for me to want him here.
#SAFC
@DailyMailUK
This is what Covid has done to people. Made people agree that we should stay at home if we have a cold. A cold. Honestly, what is the matter with people?!
or feel like we can see a different view on the ownership, it doesn’t make us a happy clapper. I don’t hate the ownership but I’m also far from happy with the on field results. It is possible to feel both.
Its not often that we can say that Sunderland have recruited well. I genuinely feel the two signings today are perfect for what we are needing at the moment. Top marks.
The influence of Johnson and Speakman already paying off? Seems like it. Really happy!
